    Re: The Ęgir CD-2

I ordered a CD-2 today. It looks to be a quality piece and a lot of thought went into its development. Really looking forward to this one!!

    Re: The Ęgir CD-2

    A CONFESSION.

For the last few days, I have been exchanging emails with Todd talking about the journey of Aegir so far, CD-2 specifications, case design, spare parts, modifications and his vision of CD-1 and CD-2 in general ... and It has been a thorough pleasure ... I honestly haven't come across a more honest and transparent person in a while ...
I have enjoyed reading his replies .. detailed and up-front !
His Passion for Aegir is apparent .. so is his uncompromising nature towards the quality of timepieces that leave his shop.
Given all these things and more, I now feel that 1.9K is a very fair price for the watch he offers.

I can tell you this .. I WILL BUY AN AEGIR !
    Sometime soon ...

Had I not bought a MM300 and MM600 this month.... Aegir CD-2 would now be sitting on my wrist !
Also, if any of you have pictures of CD-2 LE on file, Please do share.

    Cheers,
    nishant

PM from Todd with my reply:

I found it interesting that when the banner came down, no one seemed to notice, and this has not been the case with other brands, when that has happened, or their site down etc.
I look at stats of where visits come from, and most are from Lex's blog oceanictime.com
I do not bash WUS, not at all, in fact I have been and continue to be a member here for quite some time. I spoke with Ernie about the banner, and had decided to leave it for now, until Aegir returns some money to pay for such activities.
I have a lot tied up in the LE watch, and problems with it continue, and Aegir has six figure losses last financial year, and that was the reason why. Before I continue with WUS sponsorship, I need to understand the data, but there is just not enough, hence my reason for a little info in a thread like I did.
Is it worth the cost vs the sales? Not bashing this forum, nor wanting replies that bash this forum.
WUS is a great place, but is it right for my watches? that is all it is mate.

    Regards,

    Todd Caldwell

    Yeah,
You know what Todd, I owe you a sincere apology.
I didn't mean my post to come across as you personally bashing this forum.
It was the posters, including two regulars here that took me by surprise, by insinuating that the DWF has doesn't care about quality dive watches, but rather the next chinese catalog case offerings.
That is what pissed me off a little. Because I feel the DWF community here has been quite the asset to find knowledge as well as anywhere on-line.
You know, I really wish I could take back the words I said about the free publicity thing, but my post was quoted on a couple following posts, and will get read anyway. So, I guess it too late for that.
It's none of my business, and I'm sorry I said it.
As far as the 42mm dinky , average at best dive watch comment.
It's how I see it, it has to do with my personal taste only.
But, sometimes you have to take the high road, and if you have nothing respectful to say, sometimes it just best to keep it to yourself, or potentially hurt another members feelings.
I really hope you personally, and this is coming from Dave the man, not hansomegq67 the WUS poster, all the best in your future endeavors.
    I really mean that.
I'm going to at least delete my post, and I hope you can accept my sincerest apology.

    kind regards,
    ~Dave

    Re: The Ęgir CD-2

I do not know the complete history of the owner, my friend ! I only wrote what I thought of him ... what I liked about talking with him and so forth .. and a difference in opinion is not such a bad thing, after all.
I love WUS .. DWF@WUS is my favorite internet hub. However, that doesn't mean everybody has to like it as much .. and there is no harm in venting out a frustration of sorts ! whether done here at WUS or on a X, Y, Z forum.
I know this ... the watch looks good .. yes, it is kinda small at 42 mm but its lug-to-lug is just as good as MM300 .. and Aegir plans to come out with 44mm timepieces ..

In the end, I would say, that I do admire the way you see things .. Upfront, Candid and Honest [ Much like Todd@Aegir IMO..LolZZ ]

Not sure myself and all the above noted issues. Seems like a very handsome offering. Loved everything about the watch. I had a few grand burning a hole in my pocket recently. Tried to make a purchase on the Aegir 2 but had problems with the web site. Would not take any of my CC's. Sent the owner an e-mail. Never heard back. Bought a Sinn Hydro instead. Not sure of what the issues were. But because of my issues they lost a sale. Too bad.

Ok. Let me try again, as my earlier response vanished as I clicked on ‘submit reply.’

To begin with, in the thread you are referring to, at no time does Todd speak negatively of WUS. In fact, he begins his thread by stating that, ‘as a new brand, [WUS sponsorship] reaches many people’, but he has decided to suspend his sponsorship ‘until the watches return some investment to pay for such marketing activities.’ Todd even suggests that ‘this thread’ – [the one you are referring to] – ‘could be a marketing survey, (I really am bewildered) without the WUS bashing, Why is it so?’

So what exactly has the owner of Aegir Instruments done wrong in your eyes?

WUS sponsorship is not free – this might come as a surprise to some – so Todd’s decision was a financial one. Nothing more.

There have been multiple threads on WUS documenting the fact that many members do indeed feel that micro offerings are too expensive if they exceed a certain price point. And many members would agree that the reasoning behind this is the influx of Chinese made, catalogue-cased offerings. There is nothing wrong with any of these watches or watch companies – many offer fantastic value and fine products – but most are invariably sold for significantly less than what Aegir asked for the CD-2. But Todd’s pieces have been created of entirely Swiss and German parts.

In fact, you will not find another small watch co. owner who has been as transparent as Todd throughout the entire watch-creation process. There are many threads here, on DWC (see what I did there), and elsewhere that will attest to this. In most of the thread you are referring to, Todd and other forum members were simply brainstorming ideas as to why it is his creations have garnered such little interest on WUS, particularly since the disappearance of his sponsorship banner. And while there were some negative comments from a small minority, they did not come from the owner of Aegir Instruments. I won’t defend those forum members, I don't agree with their viewpoints, but will simply point out that over at DWC members are free to speak their minds, whether rankles some other members or not.

You profess to be above a ‘dinky, little, 42mm, average at best’ offering, but you’re clearly not above skulking around other fora and reporting your prize titbits back to your comrades. If you disagree with anything said over at DWC, man up and join. Members are free to voice their opinions on a range of topics (both watch and non-watch related), plenty of disagreement and gentle ribbing takes place, but all of it is done in a fun, light-hearted manner.

Finally, Todd has invested as much painstaking blood, sweat and tears as any other micro-watch company owner around. There are plenty of threads that are witness to the enormous time and effort he has put into his products. The attention to detail he has given to the watches that carry, and will carry his company name is above reproach. Feel free to check out some of the other threads over at DWC and you might see what I mean.

But for you to suggest that he ‘doesn't deserve free publicity around here any longer’ is pretty presumptuous. Every WIS that comes on here to extoll the virtues of their new piece, or to wax lyrical over their favorite watch is providing free publicity to the company that produced it. I’m not affiliated with Aegir in any way, nor do I own one of Todd’s pieces as yet. But I can guarantee that when I have the chance to purchase a CD-1, assuming it meets my expectations (and I'm sure it will), I’ll be on WUS (along with a slew of other gushing owners) providing more of that free publicity you so detest.

I suggest you go accidentally find that thread again. Maybe even read it this time. At no time does Todd bash WUS, the Dive watch forum, or any of its members. Others involved probably did but that is not Todd's fault.
