Certina DS Action Diver or Seiko Sumo for daily wear

I am looking to purchase a dive watch that I can wear with most everything...jeans and a t-shirt up through a suit (although mostly business casual). I am trying to go with just one watch that I can feel good about for most situations. I keep coming back to the Certina DS Action Diver and the Seiko Sumo. Since both are overseas watches, I can't see them up close and personal. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Got a coin? Both wonderful watches that are can't misses IMO. I own a couple Certina's and the build is fantastic. The Certina DS Action is a great bang for your buck. I like the fact that it's ISO certified. Like the look of this watch though never seen it in person. The Sumo is well loved by many and has a terrific reputation. I believe the only negative thing I've read has been date wheel misalignment issues on some. Other than that it's suppose to be well built with a nice finish. Swiss vs. Japanese movements. Depends on whether this is an issue for you. A New Certina will cost you a bit more than a Sumo. If funds are not an issue than I would probably go with the Certina only because there are less here in the US which makes it special. Either way you're good.....

Between those 2 I would choose the Certina. Can't stand the hands on the Seiko & the lume markers look cheap & glued on.If I might suggest, have you considered the Steinhart Ocean Two?

I considered selling a Sumo and getting a Certina. However, the Certina is nice enough but is a bit bland, has no real distinguishing features or personality. The bezel insert is also apparently easily marked, and I don't want to have to baby another dive watch (I already have a MM300 for that!).

I would go with the Sumo. Regret sellin mine and just cant come around to a good enough deal to replace it. The sumo to me is a keeper.

    Now in good hands.

Interesting...I didn't know that about the bezel on the Certina. I was kinda counting on that as a "+" in the Certina column, with the sapphire crystal and the "shiny" bezel, I thought it would be a little tougher than the Sumo (I guess the crystal would be tougher on the Certina though)

Yep Certina crystal will be tougher. That said, you could get a brand new Sumo, fit a sapphire, and still come under the cost of the Certina. The Certina insert may be as tough as the Sumo, but because it is glossy it will show marks more readily. Also, the Sumo insert (printed aluminium) can be easily and cheaply replaced if desired. Not sure about the cost of replacing the Certina insert, but I think it would be more.

Re: Certina DS Action Diver or Seiko Sumo for daily wear

I was thinking of adding the certina ds action watch to complement my seiko sumo as the price look's to good to be true, both watches look like quality time peaces without being really expensive. Before i buy ,i would love to read up on experiences of others who already own this watch.

I review to death all watches i buy, if i can't hold one in my hand's to get a real feel .So i will keep reading up on the certina.

    Owned them both.
I love the Sumo but the Certina DS Action Diver is the winner for me, low profile, sapphire crystal, better bracelet.
    Perfect choice for daily wear.
