    Citizen Vs Seiko Divers

I am looking to get a durable, day/date diver for work. I like the classic simplicity of the Citizen Automatic and Promaster Diver, also the Seiko SKX173.

    1. Should I go automatic or quartz?
    2. If auto, anyone know an average cost to service?
    3. Citizen or Seiko?

    Thanks for your help,

    Jim.

    Re: Citizen Vs Seiko Divers

I have own several Seiko diver and one Citizen. The Citizen NY2300 is similiar to the SKX007 but are not as good when it comes to fit and finish, however slighlty cheaper too. Good value for the price.

In the end I think whatever of these two brands you choose you wonīt be dissapointed. They are usually great pieces for the price (at least on the net and used) and both brands are also very known for having great divers.

If you pick one of these brands cheaper divers, like the one in the picture above donīt really need to think about service. They are so cheap that you just canīt buy a new one if it brakes, but these watches tend to hold up for a lot of years and look great for the price. About the Promaster line itīs the same, very good value

The NY2300 is an unbeatable value. I've bought two on the used market for $60+/-. It's an especially nice piece if you have thin wrists. The Seiko SKX models are a step up in quality and size, but also in price.

I don't have any experience with Citizen, but I returned a Seiko SKX007 today because it just wouldn't keep time I really liked the watch (though I prefer the SKX173, I like the square markers), but it ran at about +7 to +10 minutes a day, and sometimes would stop working (powerreserve issue?) Even after the e-bay seller got it checked by his watchmaker. So I'm not trying an 7s26 movement anytime soon...

Strange how one bad quality watch changes the way you look at the brand actually.

Are there any other day/date watches I should consider?
Thanks for your replies so far.

    173

the skx 173 is one of my favorites..if you can get one. You should do a forum search on that watch and over at seiko citizen watch forum.

I'm with you, the square indices and meatball second hand are awesome. I gave mine away as a present...now I want to get another

The skxa35 is awesome too...yellow dial.
Here is a crappy photo of both watches...sorry

And of course the watch is not going to be as accurate as a highly regulated timepiece...these watches are everyday beaters. If you want accurate to the second get a atomic solar g shock (I say even get one to use as your watch to set all the others).

+1 SKX173 Classic diver with great lume with extra lume dot at 3 o clock(SKX007 doesn't have that). The square indices and the fact that its manufactured for North America make it an instant collectors item.
I just ordered one myself cant wait to get it. Its going to be a great everday beater. But of course I have a G Shock GW9000A-1 if things really get tough.
