    Dive.. .dive.. .dive.. .

Okay. The weather is clearly taking a turn for at least those of us in the Northeastern part of the United States.

This is serious stuff- now I am wearing long sleeve shirts. I think some of you might know where I'm going with this:

Long sleeve button-down shirts and large watches don't go well together.

I saw an ad somewhere for men's shirts with a cut-out in the cuff for your watch to fit/be seen. Quite frankly, that's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of in my entire life.

But I see the gigantic watches many of you guys wear, some of them beyond 44mm, and I'm wondering how you guys survive your watch-mania in the winter.

I realize this is small potatoes in the realm of gas prices going out of sight, ice caps melting, sea levels rising, war, nukes, and a huge meteor slamming into the Earth and knocking us out of our orbit.. .

.. .but how the hell are we supposed to deal with those things if we're struggling to wear our favorite dive watches, eh?

Let your cuff sit right above the watch.

The watches I'm more likely to wear with button down shirts have high profiles.

I typically unbutton the cuffs and roll the sleeves internally only once. Leaving enough shirt to fall to wrist length anyway. Sometimes with double button cuffs, unbuttoning the bottom button is enough to allow the shirt to clear even my tallest watches.

On long-sleeve polo type shirts without buttons, the sleeves just don't bother me.

It's immaterial for me most days -- my cuffs are rolled down and buttoned only while I'm wearing a suit or blazer. Otherwise I tend to automatically roll my sleeves up.

However, for days when I do need to dress up, my dress shirts are mostly tailor made, and I tell the tailor to make the left cuff a little wider for my watch.

This is an issue that has long plagued us WIS Minnesotans. I usually turn my sleeves up twice, but if I'm wearing them down most of my shirts have to two-button option at the cuff so they can be worn wider.

What drives me crazy are sweatshirts with those wrist-strangling, super tight cuffs. Those just have to ride above the watch.

As for the rest of the worries you listed - I've condensed them down to just one... the meteor. If that hits, all the rest really won't matter much.

    Hmmm...I'm stumped there.

I cannot come up with even one realistic watch/shirt sleeve contingency that will address the meteor issue. Oh well, party at Doug's house...BYOB.

    Can you sew?
    Move the button.

Dry cleaners can do it easily.

    Dive.. .dive.. .dive.. .

I'm born-and-raised in Massachusetts, but have been living in Florida for 20+ years .... I don't remember what a long-sleeve shirt looks like ....

You could always do as Giovanni Agnelli, and wear your watch on top of your shirt cuff.
