    Dive watch for $500---recommendations please.

    Hi guys,

I know that this question has probably been done to death, so please indulge me.

I'm looking for a solid dive watch that can be also be a beater (I'm not a diver but do a lot of desk diving). I prefer a swiss made timepiece and automatic as well. I've had dive watches in the past (Seamasters, Submariners) but felt that they were too costly to wear as "beaters" (although some will definitely disagree with me).

Anyhow, something substantial and with heft also interests me. I like the look of some Orients and Doxas... Are there any recommendations that approximate the $500 range more or less? Any recommendations are most welcome and much appreciated.

    Thanks!

How big a watch are you looking for? If 42mm is a good size for you, you might consider a custom yokobies or xw/dotwatchworks watch based on a Seiko 6309. I think that would be a great choice because you could get something you could wear every day, that would be unique, and that wouldn't be too pricey. Plus if there was ever any damage, it's easy and inexpensive to repair.

Another choice would be getting a gently worn Zixen, though getting one for $500 might be a pipe-dream.
