Divers with better than standard ETA 2824 movement

    In the $1000 range.

I already have a Seiko SKX009 and a Boschett Reef Ranger, and are now thinking about buying a diver in a higher price range. Movement, design and general quality of the watch are important attributes. Therefore I want a watch which has a better movement than the standard ETA 2824.

I've already singled out a Victorinox Dive Master Mecha with ETA 2892 as a possible option. As far as I understand the Sinn U1 has Top Grade 2824?

Any other watches in that range similar movement?

The most affordable I know of in this catagory is the Zenton M45 diver. It features a top grade 2824, and comes with leather, and rubber strpas as well as a fitted bracelet with both butterfly and dive clasps. Zenton also allow you to build your own customizing the dial, bezel, lume, hands and finish. All for under $900. The case they use is the 2000m contract case. Check them out I like mine alot

My Stowa Prodiver beats with a COSC 2824, a well worthy upgrade, though some might not care for it. -2 sec a day consistant

Steinhart's Triton 30atm uses the Elabore 2824-2 (the other models might use it as well, but the distinction is not made on the website), and it is only 425 euros, including VAT.

The Doxa 5000T uses a 2892.A2, which is only available as either Elabore or Top grade. The 4000T uses a Top grade 2897.

UTS uses the Top grade 2824-2 in their watches.

If you go for 2893-2 GMT divers, I think there are many choices...
I think 2893-2 GMT movement is a variation of 2892-A2...
Thus many many choices there.. including Rob recently post of Steinhart ocean 44 GMT...
    I make some list below:
Benarus worldiver GMT 500m: may be available on sales corner
Baliha's new GMT project 500m: on preorder
Crepas El Buzo: on a Spanish watch forum, exclusive to members
Zenton: going to public a 2893-2 GMT diver, oceanic time spy shot....
    Helson Buccaneer: 2893-2
    ...
Above are those I think of at the very first time...You may find some more!
    Good luck : )

Fortis (IIRC) and Mido, both use elabore grade as base movements. May need to grab them used to hit your price point.

Under steer is when you hit the wall with your front end. Over steer is when you hit the wall with your rear end. Horsepower is how hard you hit the wall. Torque is how far you move the wall.

Great, didn't think of the GMT divers! Think I will take at closer look at the Steinhart Diver. Like the design and it's not too expensive.

I've always liked the Doxa watches, but a new one is out of my price range. Maybe I look at the sales forum to see if I can find a used one at a reasonable price.

all modern Doxa's unless they say chronometer on the dial are at best elabore grade (some early ones are base), Elabore grade really is not that big of a jump in spec over base. IMO the best value in movement grade is TOP, it is mechanically and materially identical to COSC grade just without the paperwork. If you can find a watch u like that offers a Top grade jump on it. The only one that does this and fits your criteria new is the Zenton assuming u like the 2000m case .

Also, most will tell you that the biggest advantage a 2892 has over a 2824 of identical grade is that the 2892 is about 1mm thinner making a watchmakers life much easier. This is why gmt and chrono modules are attached by ETA to the 2892. It is not necessarily a far superior movement, in fact some say it's less robust than the 2824.

The clear choice for me is a Bathys auto, a 2892-a2 and only a touch over 1000 new.

    Crooked date hate!!!
