Anything will last indefinitely - as long as you keep replacing parts - and even if not available as OEM, they can always be fabricated. No one can truly predict how much or even if you will lose money; only time will tell...be happy with it and enjoy it!
Certainly you should enjoy the watch. But the resale market will be razor thin. I mean, how many people can pull off 30mm thickness? How many are even up to trying? Even my UTS 4000 is just 17.85mm thick. I say "just" only because the SMW is gauge-like in its thickness. As a conversation piece, it's a clear winner. But I know I wouldn't want to make that much of a statement with a timepiece.
Omega Planet Ocean XL 8500 | Rolex DeepSea Sea-Dweller
Yup I live in LA and Orange County, see them every day. Most of the time I see several a day.
As for resale value, it will hurt so if you like it, I would keep it. That watch is bombproof (literally according to their youtube video). I don't see how anyone can actually wear it without it being overly burdensome but apparently its possible.
Current Arsenal:
HMT Pilot | Casio G-Shock Riseman | Seiko SNZH57 | Rolex Sea Dweller 16600
I bought and paid for a new CX 20,000 from my AD January 24th 2012. My biggest drawback is not having it yet.
I have a CX12,000 and am VERY happy with it, it is what influenced the decision to purchase the 20k.
I think either the 12k or the 20k would smash any other watch flat and easily outlive their owners but the only way I think they will appreciate in price is if they some how achieve a cult like following like the "Dreadnought".
Baby got back...

As with anything, if the buyer is there? it will sell pretty much for what the seller wants, and with these 20K's the amount of buyers are a lot less, still a great watch, the name is not Rolex Omega or Panerai, and people do like to spend on the bigger names.
PM replied too.

Here is the defining sentence from the review; "There are four versions of the Swiss Military 20,000 Feet Diver watch, each is available as a limited edition of 1000 pieces". It will, like everything else become a collectible in the future - IMHO.
