Off topic Help! How to go about a shady transaction...

    Hello gentlemen

Some of you may recognize my name on here as I spend most of my time in the Dive forum. Here's my problem... I made a deal to purchase a watch from a fellow WUS member on June 9th and made payment. Part of the deal was the watch would be shipped out right away and I would be getting a tracking number to follow the watch in its travels. Keep in mind this was on June 9th, a Saturday. I would have expected the watch to be at a post office by Monday the 11th, or the latest Tuesday June 12th along with a tracking number. Since my having made payment, the seller has given reasons (family issues, or his wife hadn't mailed it out) as to why I have not received the tracking number, and then he forgot to get it to me but mailed all his other buyers their tracking and forgot mine. I can understand family issues, those do happen. Catch is, we are now the 17th and I am still getting the same excuse about family issues.

Before making payment, I looked up this member to see if they had any previous sales/purchases on the forum and they had, both positive.

What do I do here? I have a perfect transaction record both selling and purchasing to members all across Canada and the US and feel this is already a blemish.

    Payment was made via Paypal/Mastercard.

    Thoughts guys?

File a dispute on Paypal. That will generally get some fire under someone whose floundering.

You can have an excuse and add about 48hr as life does happen- but that's about it unless a tragic event has taken place.
The receipt from the post office always has the tracking number on it as well.

I would give it 2 more days then start a dispute.

    Mate,
Ask the gentleman cordially to issue a refund ..
If he doesn't, file a dispute .. and bring his name out by starting a thread in the feedback section !! ..

Even if there is a family emergency, one can still have time to issue a refund on paypal .. takes 2 minutes .. and this has dragged on for you for a week now.

So, does he say it did or did not ship? If so, no tracking number yet?

I too would go the paypal route, as I have done. I did get lambasted for it on the watch deals section, but I think it was the right thing to do to protect yourself. I don't know if paypal then restricts their account or not, but you need to worry about yourself.

I would immediately ask him for a refund which he should easily be able to do on paypal. His personal problems aren't your problems. He's holding your cash without fulfilling has end of the deal. It's not right for you to wait in uncertainty any longer than you have already.

When he is done handling his problem (and ready to ship) then maybe you two can deal again.

Yep...in my opinion you don't list something to sell unless its ready to go out asap.

I agree. A PayPal refund is a one-click thing, so it takes no time at all. If he doesn't do it within 3 hours, file that dispute!

Would you mind sharing his info, so none of us get into the same situation? I ask because I just had a similar situation with some straps, over on a popular Panerai website (iwas the buyer, seller said he had issues and couldn't ship. His name was Alan).

Re: Help! How to go about a shady transaction...

    Good advise in this thread.

    - If the seller still "hasn't had a chance" to ship yet, ask for a Paypal refund. Expect refund in your account within 24hrs.
    - If the seller says he has shipped, ask for the tracking number. It is on the receipt.
    - If the seller is giving you any more excuses at this point tell the you have no other choice but to file a claim with Paypal and will be leaving negative feedback.

Come on. The seller is dragging his feet for some reason. Family issues are understandable but as a seller you have responsibilities as well. Hell, back in January my Mother had heart surgery, I was at the hospital every day during the operation and her recovery. I still found the time to pack and ship a watch during that period, I was a responsible seller.
