How did your watch collection change in 2009?

We did this post at the end of last year and it was amazing to see all the flippin' that went on in just 365 short days. Some traded up, some traded down and some traded away only to trade back

Personally, in 2009 I started with a Watchco Omega SM200 SHOM, flipped it for a Rolex 14060M, then flipped that for a Rolex Sea-Dweller...

So let's hear it, how did your watch collection change in 2009?

Well, it's been a great year for me. In Jan I was able to get an Omega Seamaster 2264.50 which was my first big Swiss watch and one of my grails. A few months later to my surprise I snagged an electric blue seamaster as well. After a few months I decided to sell both of those for a PO and a Doxa, but after getting the Doxa I came into a litle money and decided to take the plunge for my ultimate grail, the Rolex Submariner. I've had this watch for a couple months now and it is by far my favorite watch.

    Current Collection:
    Rolex SubC no date
    Seiko Tuna SBBN015
    Seiko Solar SSC021
    Seiko Orange Monster
    Seiko SKX007
    Citizen Nighthawk
    Orient Mako
    Casio DW6900, G9200, DW5600

Re: How did your watch collection change in 2009?

Haven't been on WUS for awhile, primarily because my collection changed very drastically. This time last year, I had what I considered a pretty nice and varied collection of divers. I had multiple Doxas, Marathons, Ocean7s, Kobolds, Stowas, Balls, and Seikos, to name a few. Then, in about March or April, I sold off all of my collection, save for a couple of Seikos and some G-Shocks to pay off some bills. I don't think I'll ever get the collection back to that level again.

Right now, I'm keeping it simple (and a lot easier on the wallet). My "big dollar" watch at the moment is a Seiko Sumo. This is the fourth Sumo I've owned over the years, but maybe, just maybe, I'll keep this one.

Re: How did your watch collection change in 2009?

I just got into watches in 2009 and it has been a really crazy year, particularly after finding the WUS site and starting with the dive watch area, ultimately migrating mostly to the Omega forum but still enjoy reading and contributing here a bit.

Prior to March of this year, I had nothing more than a few <$100 field watches that I'd worn for decades. I bought the Michael Westen watch by Chase-Durer in March and quickly followed that with a Seiko Orange Monster and then an LM7 and then a modded Night Monster.

This collection kept me happy until mid-summer when I was somehow bit by the Omega bug. I flipped everything except the Orange Monster and got a 42mm Planet Ocean. More Omega obsession led me to get a 45mm Planet Ocean that I swapped for a WatchCo SM300. The SM300 was ultimately sold back to its original owner and replaced by a Speedy Pro 3572.50.

I was done with the PO and Speedy Pro, but then I happened upon a brand new SMP 2254.50 ad could not pass that one up. Then I picked up an AquaTerra. Crazy. So here I end 2009 with four really nice watches and I still think there will be some changes coming. It's fun!

    Regards,
    Eric
teeritz: I'm glad you got a chance to try it, Eric. Whether you own it for a day or a lifetime, no self-respecting watch nut can truly call him/her self a collector until they try on a Rolex for longer than 5-15 minutes in a store without some salesperson breathing down their neck.

Well, I started off with only one watch - a Quartz Timex. I know, I know, but I
did not have the passion back then. You see, I got hooked on watches in May,
and I have never looked back

Bought about 14 watches and sold off 4 of them. 2 ended up in the trash bin,
and 2 are stashed away in a closet
and now I have 7 watches in my daily rotation.

Some might be up for sale early next year.
Canīt wait to see if I get my grail in 2010, wich is PAM 312

Really began this whole deal in February. Had absolutely no clue. Bought a couple of things, ended up with just too many watches that I had no passion for. I ended up selling 9 watches to move to my current collection of three (in process of selling two more). I'm liking a smaller, more select group of pieces that I really enjoy. Although, I am hoping to add a UTS and a Panerai in the near (reasonably) future. Looking forward to 2010!
    Current Collection
    Rolex Sub ND
    B&R Space 3 GMT
    PAM 24
    UTS 600m Dive Chrono

Re: How did your watch collection change in 2009?

Started my year off with only Casios and all but one was a G-Shock. Then I started lurking into other forums. Now I've got way to many. Snagged quite a few Seikos, a few Citizens and completed a set of Marathons. There are a few others. Before I added any more to what I had, my collection consisted of about 7 watches, now I have more than 50. How did that happen?
Sellers: Topher1556, JERSTERCA, GGD, Shaefro58, eeek, mvyadam, withthesword, fantasma, manitoujoe, jackhlin, flipe8, 94dakar, & davewg .... :thanks!!

My collection downsized in quantity and went a bit upscale:

Down from ~ 40+ affordables with many larger watches to twentysomething affordable and mid-priced, mid-size watches, many of much higher quality.

I also started looking, more often, at used items so I've gotten better value, IMO.

Re: How did your watch collection change in 2009?

Sold PAM 112 to fund UTS 600M Pro Diver Chrono:

    (Bye)

    (Hello)

    Purchased UTS 3000M:

    (Why, hello...)

Sold Ikepod Seaslug and Kobold SEAL to fund Chopard Pro One Orange:

(One was too small, the other was... Perfect )

(Watch that attitude, Mr. Fancy Pants)

    Purchased JLC MCDC
    :

    (Like, wow)

Sold Chopard Pro One to fund Breitling B-1 SuperQuartz:

(What'd I tell you 'bout that attitude, pretty boy?)

    (Welcome home, flyboy)

Purchased IWC Aquatimer 2000 ref. 3538
    :

(IWC for me... Hey, that rhymes)

Purchased Eterna KonTiki Diver 1000M "Concept"
    :

    (Oh. My. God.)

So, what will 2010 bring? Well, if the missus has anything to say about it, not watches, that's for certain. However, if we pretend for a moment that I'm unmarried, and therefore do not have two children and a wife to support, then 2010 will bring a 112 and SEAL to replace the ones I foolishly sold, as well as a Glashutte Original Sport Evolution and a JLC Navy SEALs Diving Alarm.

Hmmm... Anyone want two beautiful kids (boy and girl -- a complete set) and a grown woman (great sense of humor, if ever so slightly cynical)?

    (Take us home!)

    Regards,
    Adam

PS - PM only, if inquiring about family. Thx!
