    Irreantum Magellan 500m owners

    Hello,
I'm new here, but have been a watch enthusiast for a long time. Recently the availability and retro design of the cushion watches has me looking to purchase one.
Started looking and ended up zeroing in on the Irreantum Magellan 500m. Price and availability. They seem nice, nothing really special, just that the price point seems to be what keeps me hooked. The secondary market seems to be the place to score big if you hit just right.

Some things about this watch kind of has me wondering. For one, from most pictures I see, the watch dial seems to not be 100% visible when viewed from your wrist, I'm guessing it just looks that way maybe, because the dots are so huge. I also notice. no chapter ring with marks for minutes, seems like the dial is taken up by the hour markers all the way to the edge of the dial. I'm just trying to understand before I buy. My other watches I can pretty much see the entire dial with a very slight twist just wondering.

Ive also heard, watches like this are considered "boutique" I guess that means here today possibly gone tomorrow if you ever need a part or service.
Anyway they look to have been out for about 2 years should be enough watches in the wild to get an idea if they are durable users or not, I have not read any negatives.

If the dial is an issue, you could get it replaced.

On Ebay, you'll find dozens of dials for the ETA 2824 movement. A (real) watchmaker could swap it for you.
    Have a wonderful time...

I own a Magellan and can assure you that the dial is perfectly visible. Minute markers are on the dial between the luminous hour markers, so telling the exact time is never an issue. I can also vouch for the brightness of the lume. The Irreantum Magellan is among my top performere in that department. The cushion-shaped case and ratchet clasp make the Magellan very comfortable to wear. I recommend it.

Thanks great info, the Magellan does look nice, does the second hand have any lume ? And as mentioned I guess it is the smaller hands that had me thinking it was hard to read
Color of he dial might affect reading the blue looks nice just not a typical color for everyday

I'm almost positive that the second hand is lumed but I'm not wearing my Magellan today. I'll check when I get home. You can also go to the Irreantum website. Matt and Courtney are a pleasure to deal with and have always answered my questions promptly.

I have had mine since they first were released (about 2 years now). Here is a picture of mine in my favorite combo:

Ha ha - well let me try to push you over the edge I love my Irreantum Magellan Orange dial. in need of funds I almost sold last week. Every time I put it on I think, how could I possibly sell this. I had a few other watches up for sale that sold, and I promptly "withdrew" the Magellan, and I was so glad I did!

The large markers vs the hands can be deceptive. In real life, on the wrist it is totally in perspective IMHO.

I have a 6 3/4 + wrist, and the Magellan is one of my most comfortable watches! The shorter lug to lug across the watch lends itself to a broad range of wrist sizes. Great presence! The lume is fantastic! Yes, the second hand is lumed, and there are minute hash marks. The crown is wonderfully sized and works nicely! Great time keeper! The proprietors of the company are fantastic!

I personally see no relation to Doxa other than the bracelet. I love the Doxa offerings, but would never buy one as I despise their attitude to customers, and complete disregard for providing appropriate customer service.

On the sales forum, they will go at $425.00 - E-mail Magellan and ask for best price. Tell um a guy in Maine sent you, not that it will get you anywhere

I'd be happy to answer any of your questions via PM if you wish. Don't hesitate any longer! Buy a Magellan

    Here's some persuasion

    Good luck!

If the bracelet is too Doxa for you, then throw it on a rubber

Thanks for allowing me to boast & show my pics Hope this helps your decision

Great RD, many of the pictures I see of the watch with bracelet seems to look like the metal color of the two are slightly different. Maybe the watch surface is brushed and the bracelet polished. Oh yeah, since you have removed the bracelet does it have solid ends.
