    Marathon GSAR or RESCO Patriot

Hi everyone, I’m new here but have been reading a lot of posts to get some great information. I am looking for a watch on a SS band to be a daily wearer both to the office and out (fishing, hiking, outdoors. I started my search thinking the Hamilton Khaki Field Auto was the right watch but then started liking the more durable beefier GSAR and Patriot. Can anyone tell me which of the GSAR or Patriot is larger? Also, insight on which one you prefer and/or pictures on a SS bracelet would be great! Thanks for all the information on here, it has been very helpful.

The Patriot (old and new version) does not have a bracelet option, so that might make your decision easier. Don't recall anyone using after market, but maybe. The SAR series does come on an excellent Marathon bracelet, and I think it's one of the best wear-anywhere do-anything combos around. Great on rubber or zulu too.

I had a gen 1 Patriot and have a SAR on bracelet still. Both wear quite tall/thick, and I don't know the exact diameters but I feel like the Patriot is a bit wider and slightly less top heavy compared to the SAR on a strap. I find the bracelet balances the Marathon very well.

Here are a couple of pics on my 7.5" wrist. This is the SAR, but it uses the same case/bezel etc. as the GSAR so it's comparable for your purposes. Hope this helps.

    Cheers,

Thanks a lot HBL - this does help. After further research I see it may be possible to get a SAR w/o the Cyclops which is what really interests me now. However if I can find a deal on either the sterile GSAR or SAR w/o cylops i would buy it instantly.

I wouldn't worry about the cyclops. You should be able to get it removed for a few dollars...

I'm a fan of the GSAR. I'm also a fan of the GSARs price compared to the Patriot.

I've owned both, and would completely recommend both! The Gsar is a touch smaller 40 vs 42 if memory serves, but still feels tall- as does the resco- both are very slab sided. The bracelet/gsar is a great combo- and the sculpting of center vs side links on the bracelet is fantastic and seldom captured in pics. The resco fits a 20mm (same as gsar) watchadoo or other but has never come with and didn't look quite right to me on a bracelet. I think it would do much better with a 22 or even 24 trimmed to 20 at the lugs. The other major consideration is a date- pretty much the only reason I sold my resco is I use that feature too much to easily give it up.

I'll see if I can dig up some pics- but wouldn't hesitate to pick up either for a round 2 personally- good luck

Easy pick, Marathon. Do a search on the forum and you will find out allot of reasons on why.

No doubt Marathon. I've heard of too many Resco problems, especially for the price. For that kind of money, I would for sure buy a Ball Engineer Hydrocarbon.

Ah, I like the looks of that as well, I'll have to do some research on that one too. Perhaps a later purchase. I have talked to TopSpec and decided to order the GSAR thanks to the input on here. I will be getting the SS bracelet as well, I'll post photos when I get it.
