    Marathon......I don't get it.....

    Whats the big deal with these watches? I have had a few buddies say I should check them out, but I think they are just ugly! Now I haven't had one in my hands so I can't say for sure how it REALLY looks. It looks like everyone is trying to sell them right now.

    So whats the deal?

    Also:

    What are the differences between the the names: CSAR, JSAR, TSAR? Can someone break it down to which I should be looking for and what price range used?

    Thanks!!

    Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, you'll be a mile from them, and you'll have their shoes.

    They're built BY divers FOR divers, with only function in mind. Big thick bezel that can be turned with gloves on, a long knurled crown that can be easily operated by big hands (or drunk divers just arriving in a new time zone). Took me a while to warm up to my GSAR, but I really do like the thing.

    You don't have to hold one in your hands - they look exactly like they do in the photos, just like any other watch. Part of this hobby is buying watches without ever trying them on - fortunately it is easy to flip with a great group of enthusiasts.

    JSAR = 46mm quartz, some folks have them modified to an auto, like I have done
    TSAR = 40mm quartz, tritium tubes
    CSAR = 49mm (I think) chrono ETA 7750
    SAR = several variants, all 40mm eta 2824-2 auto, some have tritium tubes such as the GSAR, some have regular lume like the MSAR

    I've owned the JSAR, and CSAR. The CSAR looks/wears smaller than a JSAR in person. The CSAR is billed the same as the JSAR at 46mm. No way. It appeared more like 44mm in person. Didn't keep it long enough to measure it.

    To OP:
    If you think Marathons are "butt ugly!". Then why are you asking details on what to look for, and used prices????
    You state that "everybody is trying to sell them right now".
    So, you should know what they are going for used already. Right??

    Just FYI the MSAR has Trit tubes but the Maple Leaf on the dial, and the SAR has regular lump. GSAR is the same as the MSAR without the Maple Leaf.

    Oh. And I think that they are fabulous looking in a "I am a fantastic diving tool" kind of way. Quite pleased with the way they look, and I think a regular SAR is up next if I can find a good one.
