My Stuck Bezel is Annoying Me

Anyone's bezel ever get stuck and not turn? It's happening with my Seiko Orange Monster. Yeah, I know, you get what you pay for. But it's weird. It gets very stuck and I can only get it to rotate by really twisting it hard (hurts my delicate fingers). The bezel then rotates smoothly as if new. I won;t check it for a week or so. Then when I check it's stuck again. I have had to liberate several times via brute force, and sprayed some silicon lube underneath. Now it's turning and clicking again normally.

    Should I be worried?

PS: yesterday I took it for a swim in the Pacific Ocean. But I rinsed it off with fresh water when I came out.

I would be annoyed. Have you taken the bezel off, i would assume a bit of sand has gotten into the bezel and that would be bad to leave in there.

It's mechanical. Things can get in there. If you can't take it off yourself to see what's going on, find a watchmaker :)

Just pop the bezel off, clean with slightly soapy water and a toothbrush, then pop the bezel back on. Here's a tutorial on how to get the bezel off:
Tip for removing the Bezel on a Seiko Monster

Getting the bezel back on might be a little tough with just your hands. To get it back on, I always place the watch head on a hard surface, gently place the bezel back on, place a book over the bezel, then push down on the book. Using the book applies even pressure over the bezel. It should just snap back on.

the monster bezel is pretty simple to pop off, clean the surfaces with a q tip, add a bit of grease, then pop it back on.

same thing happens to my 007. i just rinse it under the tap while rotating it. that usually sorts it out. Be careful when using grease. Im not sure, but some lubricants can errode the seals in a watch. AFAIK silicon grease should be used, though i dont know where to get any.

You can buy silicone grease at a dive shop, but I wouldn't use any grease on the bezel ratcheting mechanism. Grease can trap fine grit, that would otherwise be washed out, creating a grinding paste that can cause premature wear.

    Have a nice day.

As much as we'd like to think a fresh water rinse is all that is needed after salt water exposure, that's just not the case. Years of diving and doing underwater photography has demonstrated that repeated soaks, followed by rinses still leave some residue. Sooner or later, everything that's been in the ocean has to be taken apart and serviced to prevent fouling, rusting and other problems.

I have the seiko silicon grease, formulated for timepieces: it's available at the usual supply houses.
