Is the popularity of 24mm lugs fading....

Ill start by saying that im a flipper... ive gone thru dozens of watches over the last few years. With that said i have noticed a over abundance of 24mm lug dive watches on the sales forum. Was it a fad? I have found that 20mm and 22mm are the most comfortable for me.

I think it depends on the watch. Some watch cases, like the Panerai Luminor, the Korsbeks, etc..with a case 45mm + look better with a 24mm lug width. The 47mm pilots can get away with the 22mm though. But say, a Sinn U1, just would look out of proportion with a 24mm lug width as opposed to 22mm, IMHO.

But I totally agree though..............in my old age, a big chunky watch feel more and more overbearing. I've been drawn to the smaller watches of late with 22mm lug widths. Some of them do feel more comfortable and still look great.

Most watches I've come across are 20-22mm. But I think it depends on the watch (as stated above).

24 or 22 for me, doesn't matter. Now it's on to the big Panerai-style straps and the massive buckles!!

Nope don't like the look or the feel.... in pics 24 looks great but in the flesh I think the strap is over bearing.... again I also have gone away from huge and thick watches as well as the fad died quickly for me after owning a bunch of them... and a 24mm bracelet is 99% of the time just doesn't look god and is too heavy and not comfy.

I do still like the panny look on 24 tapered strap though... and a 24 tapered rubber dive strap is fine. anything else give me 20 or 22mm and a watch that is 40-43mm. But it does work the other way too a Sumo with only 20mm doesn't look good either..

I have to say I agree about 99%. Some watches just don't look right with less than 24mm width but I have come to prefer 22mm overall. My problem has always been finding 20 and 22mm straps long enough to fit my 8"+ wrist. It always seems to me that longer lengths are more readily available as strap width increases. This is most often the case with leather straps. I'd just have Shane make me 2 or 3 dozen if he had the time and I had the bucks.

Based on the most recent offerings from the micros I'd say so. The watches seem to be moving towards a, for me, more comfortable size of 42-44 mm diameter and the lug width decreases proportionately. I agree that a 24 mm non tapering bracelet can be overbearing so I for one am thankful.

I have one watch and went on a year long search for the right strap for it, since I couldn't get one comfortable enough. I went through the normal strap, a Sailcloth prototype, and then settled on NATOs.

These overly wide straps with massive buckles can go away and I wouldn't mind it.

I still own a couple of watches with 24mm strap/bracelets. If it weren't for the looks of the watch I would move them on. 22mm is ideal looks wise and comfort wise for me. I am leaning more toward thinner watches with 22mm straps almost exclusively in my new purchases.
