    Seiko emperor or doxa 5000T?

Hi, I'm now down to these 2 watches (seiko sbdx011 and doxa 5000T) I know the 5000T which I sold but really liked. As for seiko I only owned a MM300 which I did not really like (crown, small lugs, etc...)

Anyone owns or owned both watches and would like to le me konw their thoughts regarding my next purchase?

    Cheers!

    Alex

    Out of the two:

    1. Which would you most likely still own in 10 years?
    2. If you were in an airplane, which watch would more likely strike up a conversation of interest with the stranger next to you?
    3. If you have a son, which one do you think he may appreciate more when he's 21 and out of college?

Of course, your answers to these rhetorical questions will be based on your own perspectives, but that's the idea. These are 3 (among many) insights that may help your decision.

Great choices with the two watches. Would love to hear other suggestions and thoughts!
Life is short. How sad to have realized in your death bed that you've worn a crappy watch as a "daily beater" for most of your days.

I dont know...I like both for different reasons.

The Doxa for it's classic wear with anything goes...look more of a jewel not to mention the whole J.Cousteau histery and all.

I like the technical aspect of the seiko, monocoque, no helium valve, vintage rugged look. I'm afraid that the size will be uncofortable

I like a watch that can also take a beating and which will last a long time without servicing. I'm not a service freak...I say ''if it tick dont fix''

Not really much more to say than that.

How do you know what percentage of the Doxa is made in Switzerland? I've never seen any information on that. If that's an unknown, how do you justify the "just enough" statement?

Personally I'd go with the Doxa. I'm biased, but I love mine, and it does everything a watch needs to do, and it does it exceedingly well. Frankly I don't care where my lubricating oil comes from.

It's fairly common knowledge that a decent portion of any new Doxa uses parts sourced from China (heck, their parent company operates case and bracelet manufactures in China). How much exactly is certainly up for debate since Doxa (rightly) holds this information close to the vest and they stifle any mention of this on their official forum. However, at the end of the day they do manage to sneak in above the "51%" requirement imposed by Switzerland, and thus can legally slap "Swiss Made" on their dials. Is this a bad thing? That's up to you to decide. Personally I could care less so long as the finished product is sound, and I would imagine that a large number of folks would agree with me here. However, there are some who place more value transparency, in which case Doxa's obfuscation in this regard isn't doing them any favors.

Honestly the Seiko is more unique and more interesting, and personally I think it's heritage is more pure. That being said, there are big watches and then there are BIG watches.

The seiko is 50+mm wide and 22mm thick!!! Holy smokes...
