    Sinn U1 or go Doxa?

    Hi,

I'm finding my self in a little dilemma. The first time I saw pics of a Doxa I thought "meh" but as you might have guessed they slowly grew on me. Now since I got my Tektite (awesome!) I've worn it on an orange Rhino strap and it's in my opinion the best combination by far (followed by the Sinn rubber strap - who would have thought that? especially as I just don't like the U1 on rubber). I thought mesh would be the way to go but ney and other Nato/Zulu colours are rather boring for the Tektite too. So after really getting into the general orange fever what followed was of course quite the Doxa fever .

Now I do like the Tektite quite a lot and don't want to sell it. On the other hand my U1 hasn't seen any real wrist time since the arrival of the Tektite... and tbh I'm really not that impressed by it anymore. When I put it on my wrist it's OK - no it's quite nice. But when I see how awesome the Tektite looks just lying there on my desk I feel the urge to take that U1 off my wrist.

This is why I'm thinking of flipping the U1 and getting one of the nice Doxas (1200T, 1500T, 5000T, 800Ti). Then on the other hand I'm not sure if I would miss the U1 because it shure is a damn nice watch and what I want to avoid is to sell the Doxa again and getting the U1 back. Also as a student I can't afford getting a Doxa without selling off either the Tektite or the U1 (I'm pretty sure without stating this, it would be the first response from you guys so yeah... sorry to disappoint you ^^).

So I'm pretty sure there are people here owning or having owned both Doxa Subs and Sinn U's. Could you help me out here? Which of them would or have you didched? Which would you consider more essential in your collection and which of the 2 would you not let go? Besides I purchased my U1 maybe 2 years ago at a very reasonable price. Considering the after-market prices of both right now the Doxas and the U1... it's roughly the same.

    and this:

if it helps, I'm currently trying to sell the MilShark although both are friggin' awesome watches and I'll regret the sale as soon as I ship it out so I guess I'm absolutely no help...

Love the Sinn. Great German design and value. Have not owned a Doxa so really cant speak to its merits - other than they really like orange. My recommendation is keep the Sinn.

They are both great watches, but I'm definately partial to Sinn. My biggest issue with Doxa is how easily the bezels scratch up, no matter how careful you are. Personally I would sell them both and pick up a Sinn U2, which is my favorite in the U series.

Yep... just was about to compliment on powboyz' awesome U2. And you're right I haven't handled my U1 like a baby... I actually crashed into metalframe doors now and then and there's still no scratch to be seen on the bezel.

It's also very interesting... I wouldn't have thought that until now everybody would be pro-Sinn ^^.

Believe it or not this exact question has been asked before.... A few times. Sounds like you have already let go of the U1 mentally so why not try a Doxa. Nothing to loose. The Sinn is every bit the watch the Doxa is, probably superior in many ways(movement, technology, etc...), but it sounds like you are ready for something new.

I haven't owned a Sinn yet, but I intend to based on their quality construction and materials used. That said, aesthetically the U1 is not my favorite. For my taste the look and design of DOXA is far more unique and interesting. If dive pedigree and history are any factors in your decision, and I assume they are because you posted here, DOXA wins hands down.

One thing to keep in mind about DOXA's... the bezels are beautiful but scratch very easily unlike the hardened u-boat steel of the Sinn. If you don't mind the "wabi" go for the DOXA, but if you abhor scratches just know what you're in for. A lot of the guys here who actually dive with their watches will tell you a mildly scratched DOXA is part of the charm of owning one. Personally, I use my Tektite for the deep and choose to keep my DOXA's minty fresh.
