2nd on the IRREANTUM!!! Extremely comfortable - 2824 mechanical movement on mine is -3 to 5 sec. per day, and a beautiful, but utilitarian bracelet that has a ratchet divers extension + SUPER bright lume. No deaths head, thug culture markings. I was lucky to find mine used with the description, "as nice as any DOXA I have owned". It doesn't matter because now that I have the dry-run-used, experience, I will buy a new one soon. Oh, the crown is located at 4:15 and well set into the case which totally prevents bent wrist poking(I would never consider a watch ever again with a crown at 3 o'clock). You have a choice of the elegant black dial or utility orange or even blue. You will definitely not regret owning this watch - it's a keeper.

Always like them but the hands are much to small for the dial and the markers to large. If they would ever realse a new version and fix thos flaws I would definately snag one as they are a nice value. Came close to buying a new one and moding the hands but that still leaves the markers. To much trouble so I have passed on them thus far.

Good, thanks for the response! At least we are narrowing this down; that's the value of this discussion and why it's so important that you post your final decision. The significant point here, there are several choices that will fit your requirements or maybe none at all. My modifications to the Magelan start with: the larger hands which you mentioned; more and bolder indices;, higher and removable bezel (for cleaning) with full lume option; screwed bars instead of spring; Allen or hex wrench recess in the crown in case it's too tight to unscrew by hand; and finally, 100% titanium, lightweight and rustproof construction; fine not bead blasted, matte finish so some curious sea creature with very sharp teeth doesn't decide to bite that shiny thing on my wrist to see if it tastes good...

I dig the Bezel on those, but not the case shape. I like my watches to have lugs. I'm not a big fan of bead if rice bracelets either, though that one looks nicer than most.

I'm back on maybe getting the skin diver on mesh for something different and dropping a little cash on customizing my 007. Or just getting the skin diver and a miyota shark diver... I dunno....

Someone tell me what to buy.

And keep the suggestions coming, I still haven't had a dive chrono suggested. ;)

They are alive, because they are the physical shape of the action of a living power—of the mind that had been able to grasp the whole of this complexity, to set its purpose, to give it form… they are alive, but their soul operates them by remote control. Their soul is in every man who has a capacity equal to this achievement. Should the soul vanish from the earth, the motors would stop because that is the force which keeps them going - not the oil ...- not the steel cylinders that would have become spots of rust on the walls of the caves of shivering savages- the power of a living mind, the power of thought and choice and purpose.

Definitely get a Skindiver. Such a great watch.

    What is this? Chopped liver?

I know, not automatic, but kicka$$ nonetheless! (Even better for taking a beating.)
Homage watches democratize history for the common wrist.

Do we become flippers because we find the compromise that necessarily accompanies a particular selection is too great? If you have the time - go to the "perfect dive watch" thread...I'd flip that SEIKO - just joking; it's a nice looking watch, and very reasonably priced!

Bleh, Orient 300 m is the watch for you. It's a bit taller than your ideal (I think 16 mm) but it is a simple watch that is easy to polish / brush yourself if you think you beat it up too hard. No sapphire or lumed bezel, but the ceramic coated insert has way better contrast than any sapphire bezel I've seen. ISO certified, trick He proof gaskets, ratcheting clasp, blinding lume that lasts forever, 5 mm thick sapphire, quality dial and handset. For US$700 or so used, it's a hell of a 'beater'.

(usually I would recommend the Sumo but it is an extremely complex extremely refined case that once beaten will be a pain to get looking good again - a true dressy diver)

You know, I was looking at the Orient Revolver for a while some time ago, kinda forgot about it. I may need to revisit. I just worry that it would be a little redundant with the 007 I already have. Same goes with the OS300, but I'll take a look.

Anyone have a shot of the OS300 or Revolver next to a 007 for size/shape comparison?

I'll say it again, that watch looks good enough to make me consider a quartz, but I just can't do it. That static 1 tick per second thing just kills me. Plus, I'm a Mechanical Engineer, and the gears and sprockets and little mechanical fiddly bits in the watches are what draws me to them. If I were a designer, I'd be all over it, but I'm an engineer, so aesthetics are secondary.

I've looked at O7 stuff before, but I've heard some good and bad things about the brand, and I was never in love with any of their pieces enough to risk it.

And finally, I've started considering a Lemania 5100 powered pilots/tool chrono again, so all of this may be moot if I find one in my range (up to $1500).

Re: So. It turns out I'm a flipper.... What's next?!

Alright, damnit.... I'm trying to make a rational decision on an irrational, emotional impulse.

Someone talk me out of buying a ~20 year old Lemania 5100 powered pilots chrono. I absolutely love the movement, and it's been a grail since I started collecting, and, while it's been serviced recently, the service ran the owner $800, and I have a feeling that's only to get more expensive when it needs service again and parts are even more scarce than they already are. (Man, that was a long sentence. I think it was grammatically correct though.)

It would completely wipe out my budget (plus a little). It would be a nightmare to service later. It doesn't have a bracelet. But it's gorgeous and I've wanted one for a very long time. I'm trying to tell myself that for the cost of the watch now and 2 services, I could probably afford a new Damasko Central minute chrono, or the Sinn EZM10, which would be more robust movements and wouldn't require service nearly as often (oil-free). The problem is, I won't be able to drop that kind of dough for a decade probably (when my student loans are paid off).

Fighting rationality and Verruca Salt syndrome ("I want it NOW!") Grr....

Hell, I'll probably end up flipping whatever I get anyway, the way this trend is going.
