    Re: Top 5 Divers

The only two from my list that I haven't had in my hands is the GP and Seiko SD
but I don't have a shadow of a doubt that they will fit me fine.

When I get a watch in my hands I know with in 30 sek whether it is something for me,but pic also tells me a lot.
    It's just a watch

Cool, never heard of her. Not much info on the ladies.

Also Francisco Pippen Ferraras wife was also a champion free diver until she died on a dive. RIP Audrey Ferrara's
Both were sponsored and given limited edition Seiko dive watches.

Top 5 that I'd want to own.

A man's watch is a very cherished thing. You steal that, you might as well be stealing his soul.

+1, my list follow that same logic Also to Colin's point, rating could be based on professional reviews and real life feedbacks over the years.

As of today, I couldn't put my top five that I actually own, since I am down to only 3 diver watches

I think he really meant watches that you currently own or have owned. Despite the fact that the OP was offering up yet another opportunity for us to fantasize about watches we'd love to have, Colin was coming from the serious side of why one would want a particular dive watch (let alone five). I only own three dive watches, too. Yet I have dived with many, many others over the last four-plus decades so I have a pretty good idea what the others might be if I had to round it out to a full five.

Some have taken the thread title quite literally and listed five famous divers (both underwater breathers and freedivers). Others have picked dive watches that they have, as you pointed out, researched carefully and read reviews and other feedback to ascertain if they would be good watches to head below the waves with. Still others have actually dived with the watches they listed - and I count myself in that group, with the qualifiers I stipulated. Finally, I'm sure some listed five really cool dive watches that are worth a boatload of money and would be bitchin' to own, but with which they have zero experience.

That diversity of responses makes this thread useful to the diversity of interests in dive watches represented here. That might even include the singularly cryptic post of fidelio, who listed five watches he did not own, three of which he did not even like. Some outside our little community might say we're wasting our time with these little circular exercises. They obviously don't have a clue....

I'm sure you've heard of "root rot" in plants. Here on the DWF, there is the disease "Threadus hijackitus," which causes threads to take on a life of their own, beyond the control of the OP.

    Re: Top 5 Divers

    My personal take on this:
A mix of the most valued, most desired, most respected - with absolutely no other criteria than pure fancy, probably driven by elegance, personality, and je-ne-sais-quoi:

    • Vintage Rolex Submariner, given by my Dad (I have one)
    • Longines Legend on a ridiculous variety of straps (also have)
    • IWC Aquatimer, white dial, on bracelet + white rubber, if they even make that (wish I had!)
    • Blue Eterna Kon Tiki, on bracelet + blue rubber (plan on getting before next summer)
    • Alpina Regatta, white, with Omega Apnea-style visual countdown (also plan on getting, but these are just plans…)

and as an alternative (also from my Dad):

    Re: Top 5 Divers

I'm sure that these would not be TOP to everyone but certainly with these I'd be complete....

    1- Rolex Sub 14060M COSC
    2- Seiko SBBN015
3- IWC AT 2000m (sapphire bezel)
    4- Blancpain Fifty fathoms
5- JLC Navy seal diving pro geographic

So far I have the first two....I'll add no. 3 or 4 by end of this year. I'm pretty sure I'll never get to no.5.....
    Cheers from Malta, Etienne
