UNOFFICIAL HELSON WATCHES SUPPORTERS CLUB - Please post your great experiences

Here is a golden opportunity for us Helson disciples to tell other real and desk watch divers who havebought any of Peter Helson watches what they are really like; being a cut above others. Viva Helson Watches! If anyone is wanting to know about what it is like to own these watches and do not have one but thinking about it, please read those who have responded to this and other postings on Dive Watches. Go tohttp://www.helson-watches.com/

You do not need to be a diver to have one of these watches. Many of us are “desk divers”who understand the mechanics and construction of these type of watches. There could a rhetorical question; why own adiver watch if you do not dive? My answer is simple; they are produced to a high quality withstanding high pressure whether it be say, 1,000 feet below or above sea level. They are durable andthe diver timing bezel can be used even if you are timing boiling an egg! One may ask; what would be the minimum depthof water resistance one should get? Iwould suggest that a minimum of 100M/330ft as you will be safe wearing in a bath or under a shower or diving into a swimming pool to 12 feet. I would advise to buy one with a screw down crown mechanism to ensure water tightness. Do not use chronograph buttons when the watch is in the water as one runs the risk of water ingress! Here isanother question; if 100m/330ft water resistance is sufficient for most of us watch fanatics, why do some people feel that is not enough? That would be a matter of opinion to some! There are many psychological aspects to this and yes, all in the mind! However, I think for what it is worth, any depths over 1000M/3,333ftwater resistance should have a helium escape valve. Yes, that statement could be considered ridiculous to the many of us who do not dive beyond the depths of our baths! Well, it is down to being a fanatic which probably most of us are and that attracts us to this extraordinary hobby ofwatch collecting.

Having digressed somewhat in the last paragraph, do view thedifferent models and range of Helson Watches and I am one who wants to see the popularity of this watch producer continue so, here is an opportunity to forman Unofficial Helson Watches Supporters Club for WUS readers and other alike.

Now it is over to you as it is not about me!

BTW: I have a Sharkmaster 600M & 1000M crown at 3 as well as a Shark Diver in Bronze 2000M. All with Swiss ETA 25 jewel movements. All of these are great collector's pieces and there are other models worth considering also. If one had to choose one, it would be the SM600 as it is the dead ringer of a legend and who knows how long they will be produced! Get one while stocks last.

I've got a 45mm Shark Diver. Blue full lume dial and PVD case. Unbelievably amazing build quality. 9015 mvmt gives my swiss ones a run for their money.

Peter has great CS and responds quickly. Great guy to deal with.

Big fan of the brand, I've owned 3 tortuga, 2 SM 1000, 2 SM 600, 1 45mm SD, 1 skindiver, and I am greatly tempted by the new Blackbeard line. Never a problem with any of them and all have been diving. The only people concerned with depth ratings deeper than 300 M are desk divers who buy more watches than divers so the market caters to them, this has let to some very poor designs for real dive watches but for the most part even the worst dive watch of today is a better real world dive watch than anything made before the 70's.

Good posting right there that modern diver watches are made better today to withstand water resistance than watches made before the 70s. Thanks for that valuable contribution.

Most of the time I grab the 42mm Shark Diver ETA movement. I've owned two Rolex watches, one being a submarnier. The SD gets more wrist time, compliments and brings a smile to my face. If I had only one watch in my collection, the 42mm Shark Diver would be it. It's the single greatest reason I'm glad I joined this forum.

I've had the SD45 (Miyota 9015) for about two years and regard it as an excellent tool watch, having used it diving and during other rough jobs. Its a BIG watch though, but there is plenty of choice from Helson, and Peter's customer service is second to none.
