Mine's fairly straightforward… I was in process of joining WUS and came to the part about selecting a username. I drew a blank… just then, I glanced at my watch for the time and I was wearing my Citzen Nighthawk. Heeeyyyyyy…

Mine is a modification of my very long time alias on the net (dates back from 1997, mostly for things guitar oriented) "Pakyie", which was a mix of "Paco" Spanish short for Francisco and "Paddy", Irish short for Patrick, as François is my first name and Patrick my middle name, and being in part of Irish descent, I've lived for a while in Spain...

When I was in commercial diving school in 1981 there was a sign on the dive station that read "THERE ARE OLD DIVERS AND THERE ARE BOLD DIVERS BUT THERE ARE NO OLD BOLD DIVERS". That statement kind of stayed in my mind. I imagine every professional diver has heard that quote.

A little history first. The Paladin were a group of hand selected palace guards, usually the closest to the Royal family. They not only served to protect the family but also were considered mentors and council to the younger family.

Now how does this pertain to me? It wasn't until my oldest daughter became of adult age. I struggled to define how our relationship would be. While I tried to respect her autonomy as an adult; I could see she still leaned on me for council.

Finally when I was to walk her down the aisle on her wedding, I saw her husband-to-be at the front and I realized that this was more than a wedding but also a "changing of the gaurd" and finally the relationship had been defined...

    I was her Paladin!

Cuica is a percussion instrument used in Brazilian music (although I'm Portuguese but we all speak the same language) and that was what I was called by my father's co-workers when I visited the bank my father worked for (for a kid it was cool because they always gave me rubber bands, paper clips and pens - yeah, I know, I had lower expectations back then!!!).
That's also the first name I came up with that wasn't taken when I started this internet thing a while back.

As far as F1, have to agree with Ayrton Senna da Silva when I still saw F1 on TV.

Well, a few years back I was a fair regular on eBay, buying and selling cameras and photography equipment. Whenever the mailman brought a package to the house, my loving wife would say: "Not another camera!"

These days she says: "Not another watch!"

I was visiting my home town a few years ago, attending a cookout, when a high school buddy of mine whom I hadn't seen in a long time came up to me while I was eating a hotdog and shouted "paulie dogs!" Paul is my 1st name and my close friends call me "Paulie". I wanted a username without any numbers in it so I ran pauliedoggs together. Not very interesting, I know. My avatar is a pic of some cute wiener dog puppies I found on the Internet that I thought would be appropriate for my username. Nothing too creative there either. I have to admit, I like the way "pauliedoggs" rolls off the tongue. A guy at work calls me "Pauliebats". Why, I have no idea. That's not interesting either.

    OK, I'm done now.
