Would you lend your diver/ watch to a friend for the day?

Inspired by a thread here on WUS, I thought I would pose a question I have been wanting to ask for some time now.

If the situation was right, would you feel comfortable lending a friend your watch for the day to try out? What if he just wanted it for use to an event or a dinner party of sorts?

Is this kosher? Have you done it? I have several great local WIS buddies and am always curious on what I would say if the question came up. What would they say if I posed the question...

The already posed question was "Is it OK to take off your watch to show it to an admirer?" (credit to SIDDMOHAN).

Feel free to chime in on that quesion as well as it is a variant of mine.

A BIG problem humans have is telling the difference between a friend & an acquaintance. For a friend, yes,I probably would.

Yes, but only those I would not cry over being lost/dinged.

Good replies. Yes, done it many times with both cheap and high end watches. But only with good friends who I know can respect, appreciate, and properly care for a mechanical watch of varying origins. I've often shipped them off in the mail and let the friends keep them for weeks or months. A very good buddy loaned me one of his vintage PloProf's for almost a year. I've made lifelong friends (I consider some to be like a brother) with many guys on this forum, and we have met in person many times too. And none of us live in in the same town, or even on the same side of the continent. But we all exchange watches because we know each other very well, and know we can trust each other too.

For members who understand, no explanation is needed. For thread crappers who do not understand, no explanation is possible. Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything, but you can't help smiling when you see one tumble down the stairs.

To quote Shakespeare "Never a borrower nor a lender be"

It might not be the most friendly of sentiments but I'm afraid I wouldn't be comfortable with lending someone my watch, and I wouldn't ask to borrow anyone elses.... the same goes for tools!

Only exception would be my Dad, my best mate & my brother in law

Re: Would you lend your diver/ watch to a friend for the day?

If one of my friends from here lived near me, I probably would think about it. Because I know it would be taken care of in the same manner as I take care of it.
The other friends in my life? Not a chance!
Because they would have a hard time comprehending that they cannot handle my Breitling or Ploprof in the same nonchalant manner as they do their iPhones.
I would lend them my car, just not my watches.

ps: Thank you so much today for the birthday call my friend Ariel!
    My Watches:
    Breitling Super Avenger
    Omega Planet Ocean Chronograph 9300
    UTS Adventure 500m

^ +1 on the "friend" v. "acquaintance" distinction. I wouldn't hesitate to lend one of my watches to a friend to wear/try-out, but I wouldn't lend one of my watches out to someone I just consider an acquaintance.
