The Citizen Nighthawk (granted- more pilot than diver) would be on my under $300 list.

Also- the Seiko SRP043 (spork), Seiko BFK, and I've seen Armida A1's go for under $300 on the sales forum, which I think is a steal

I think the monster is by far the best, but if you're looking for versatility in a watch as far as being able to wear it in a number of situations, I don't think you can do better than the 007. If 300 dollars is your price range, you can order a 007 from Jake at 10watches and ask him to install an AR'd sapphire all for about 250 dollars! No brainer.

If you want something that works better for business casual attire, maybe you should consider going outside the dive category. (Blasphemy, I'm sure.) A dive watch is a great option for after work and weekend wear, but your wife's probably right that it's not ideal for office wear. I doubt you'd have any problem getting away with it, but it's obviously not the watch that's meant to be worn in that context.

I agree with Bronte's opinion. Maybe you should look into getting a nice leather strap for your 809 for business wear.

I have two of the watches already mentioned above: Seiko 6309 and Vostok Amphibia. They're both nice, but not what I would consider "business casual"

    Re: Your Top 5 Diver's Under $300

If you're not opposed to buying second hand from the sale forum, I've seen the following watches for $300 and under often.

    1. Steinhart Ocean One (Black, Vintage Red, etc.)
    2. Seiko FiftyFive Fathoms modded watches (SNZH55, SNZH57)
    3. Seiko Samurai (SNM011, SNM031)
    4. Seiko Stargate (SKZ325, SKZ327)
    5. Prometheus Jellyfish
    6. Tissot Seastar
    7. Hamilton Khaki King Scuba

    For new watches:

    1. Seiko Monster
    2. Seiko 007
    3. Bernhardt Binnacle Anchor
    4. Bernhardt Sea Shark
