    Considering my first Panerai

I am shopping new and pre-owned. The PAM 388 and a PAM 514 appeal to me but I am uneducated on the in-house movements. How well regulated are these movements when they come out of the factory and after a couple years of wear?

Chuck, I have owned numerous Panerai watches and have never had an issue, ever.

I have owned the PAM 388 for several years now and enjoy the watch a great deal. As you know, the 388 is automatic and the 514 is hand wound and 2mm larger.

I just tried on both models. Undecided, torn, can't decide. The wire hoop lugs on the 388 Black Seal say real Panerai to me, but I also really like the patina color numerals on the 514.

    Welcome to the Panerai forum.

Whichever model PAM you choose I am sure you will be impressed.

The 388 is a traditional Radiomir case with the wire lugs, which are not as easy to swap out straps on, but sure look antique, and make the watch wear very small on the wrist, even in 47mm case widths.

The solid lug Rads are a cross between the wired Rads and the Luminor cases, but are certainly beautiful things in the wrist.

Best advice is get wrist time with both watches, and buy the one that you like best and fits your wrist shape.

I went with the 514. Honestly the size of the black seal 45 millimeter is probably better for me but I just really like the patina dial numerals on the 514, and I do not have to worry about the tiny screws on the wire lugs.
