    Muhle-Glashutte SAR Rescue Timer

    Hi,

Anyone have good / bad experiences with these - I' considering one as an alternative to a Sinn.

    Thanks

Well, our mod XTrooper used to own a Mühle SAR Rescue Timer. Here´s his comment:

It's a fine watch, with an impressive depth rating. A trifle garish, in an industrial design way. But I'd keep the Sinn; it's more versatile because of its appearance and is perhaps more interesting becausing of its unique engineering. --redstart

Thanks Mike - and you have no reservations about the UX?

i don't recall ever reading anything negative about the SAR. It's a little smaller than the UX/U1/U2 at just under 42mm (if i recall), but it's a well-made watch.

i would buy the u1 or u2 over the SAR. i am not a fan of the UX...oil-filled cases are imo a meaningless innovation and just makes for more complicated service and potentially more headaches such as air bubbles, etc. unfortunately, if you want quartz, it's eithe the UX or nothing.

Quartz is the least of the UX's problems.....

I'm not the brightest guy around - so just to be sure I have this nailed down - if I go for Sinn then it's U1 or U2 but the SAR Muhle is okay too.

Given my nervous disposition I think the UX is probably more excitement than I need when I'm spending hard earned dollars!

If you get a well done UX, it has alot going for it.
Thermocompensated cosc quartz for dead on accuracy and the oil makes the dial legible from any angle, really a cool look.
There is a possibility though you'll get oil with a darkish tint and a better possibility you'll get a jumpy second hand.
    So do you feel lucky?

Got a SAR,for the second time and no complaints well built, good reserve, nice bracelet, rubber strap not so great IMO and i think again a company with a decent pedigree.

The UX is larger, excellent strap and bracelet, oil filling gives a very dark appearence and i personally do not have a problem with quartz but can be judging from the forums "tempermental".

Unless you need that depth rating get a good pre owned U1.

IMHO it is an excellent watch which holds its head amongst these in the photo. Excellent lume, the rubber bezel reduces the imagined size and excellent stainless strap. Offset crown is an underestimated pleasure. Overall very high design ethos with very little, if anything, owing to other designs. Great price point especially on the 'bay.
Minor quibbles are the typeface of the date is too similar amongst numbers and combined with a slightly too small magnifying lens makes immediate reading sometimes difficult. Nice box as well.
Anyone know where to find a spare rubber strap?
