    Nomos Club goes Cali...

Spotted this flicking through the latest issue of QP magazine. I haven't seen any mention of it online or even on Nomos website.

I'm not a fan of California dials generally, but I really like the pale blue they've used on the indices.

You might not be able to make it out, but this is being advertised as a 'graduation watch' with a plain case back for a personalised message. That bit I don't like, but the watch...I think I do.

I think I would like it more if they just stuck with arabic numerals.

Can anyone explain the point of the California dial? Especially one that doesn't even have the VI. And is that really a pink watch, or just crappy rendering?

Not pink. I'm afraid it's a photo of a photo in a magazine - haven't seen any mention online to get a better photo.

OK, that's fair enough. I was beginning to worry about Nomos!

I found an explanation of California dial on Wikipedia, and it still makes no sense at all.

I posted this to the public forum thread, but let's add it here, too. Seems like there are also other colorways. I found this browsing the Baselworld 2017 website publications here: NOMOS Glashütte/ SA Roland Schwertner KG - Online Catalogue Baselworld 2016.

My plan is to buy a Club this year, so I've been waiting to see if we get Club news from Basel, but this was pretty unexpected. The cali dial has not been my thing, but here for some reason it's not that bad; I really like the orange hands of the original, though.

I'm a big fan of Nomos and their designs, but this leaves me a bit confused.

A mixture of roman numerals, stick indexes and arabic numerals? Printed in baby blue and lined with pink?

The black sheep of the Nomos family has just become even more so. It was always a confused piece, (not sporty, not dressy) but now it's just plain odd.

Never been fond of Cali dials either. The link purples gave is worrisome. 3 slides...2 of which are old. If this is all that's new...I won't say I'm disappointed. Not like we don't have plenty to love. And I'm not sure Nomos really ties to Baselworld, as the core of their marketing for the year, as others handle it (or SIHH).

And I do have to say, we've criticized Nomos for being too tied to a fairly narrow design language. This is at least different.
And it is also said, "go not to the Elves for counsel, for they will say no and yes."
