    Sinn 857 versus Muhle Marinus

I'm looking at both the Sinn 857 and the Muhle Marinus. Both black-faced, on rubber strap.

Any insight on choosing between the two? Personal preferences?

    Thanks in advance!!

    That's a hard decision.
The Sinn got a higher resistance againt magnetic fields and the Mühle a higher water resistance.

    My personal preferences?
I can't stand this hour hand on the Sinn, it is just too short in my opinion.
(same goes for the 556 for example)

The hour hand on the Mühle is different but okay.
I like the Mühle because of it's movement, I've never owned a Selitta and really would like to own one.
I like how Mühle designed the lug fittings for the rubber strap, pretty smart.
Both dials are very readable to me, their pretty close in their style.

When I looked at this photograph I asked myself if it is comfortable to use the bezel it looks pretty flat here.

I'm kind of affected to Mühle since the day I first read about this company, this and the Selitta movement plus the ugly short hour hand on the Sinn makes it clear for me.
My vote goes to the Mühle Marinus.

    kind regards

That is a very good point about the bezel, I have experience with an uncomfortable bezel on my Bremont (love the watch) so you noticed something I missed. The best bezel is my Rolex:( Thank you!

I will try to get both watches to compare side-to-side, maybe I'll take some pictures!

I think the hands on the Mühle are not real beauties, but that only shows, that taste is a personal thing. But I think you raise a very good issue about the bezel, that looks indeed not very practical in use.

Just an update, I got the Muhle and I love it!!! I'm not sure I like the cheap clasp but the watch is awesome!!

Very unique look, and it sits nicely on the wrist since it is a thin watch, and the rubber strap is integrated into the lugs.

I hope they have other band options (leather?), since I'm not a fan of rubber. We'll see.

    P.S.

I forgot to say the unidirectional Muhle bezel is very comfortable, easier to rotate than my Bremont. The Sinn bezel is bidirectional.

    Congratulations.

We would like to see your photos if you get a chance.

I don't know about leather to replace the rubber. The dealer should
know. However, if you remove the lug screws don't the end links
fall out? Then you could use a leather strap without modification.

If you prefer to use those end links, I think you could do some careful
surgery to make a leather strap fit. I think custom strap makers would
also build to fit that dimension.

    Thanks,
    rationaltime
