Wakmann Pilot Unitas 6498 (Made in Germany).

Dear all.
Till now, number of watches are passed on my wrist. But I couldn’t taste B-Uhr(Beobachtungs-Uhren) style watch. Original B-Uhr has 55mm big case to check time quickly and easily wear on the pilot jacket. Recently replicated B-Uhr watches are 40~47mm case, many watch lovers wear B-Uhr for every day watch, and it makes us identify with a pilot.



40mm case watch well fit to my wrist, but I try to up to 44mm case because I already have many 40mm watches include Submariner, Stowa Marine auto, Breitling, and Yacht-master, and also I'm looking for made in Germany watch. (I’m falling in love German watch recently, simple, solid and affordable). Other points that I looking for installed hand-winding movement and 22mm lug wide to taste some nice straps.

Wakmann watch?

Icko Wakmann is founder of wakmann, he established Wakmann Watch Company in New York 1943, and he also made Breitling Watch Corporation of America (Breitling USA) it is joint company with Breitling. From 1940s to 1970s, Wakmann made chronograph watches and business in U.S.

In 1979, Ernest Schneider bought Breitling from the founder's grandson, Willy Breitling, I think at that time, Wakmann was stopped making watch.

1940s Wakmann chronograph. Installed WOG Valjoux 72C movement it used in Breitling as well as crown is same as Breitling.

Torsten and Benno who is professional in Breitling watches, author of "History of Breitling" bought Wakmann’s brand rights and start making some interesting watches which are used historical movements like a Lange und Söhne, Patek Philippe Minute Repeater, Jürgensen Chronometer Minute Repeater..

Package: Well packaged, it took 2 weeks from Germany to Japan by DHL. Black watch box is not bad. Certificate card be in the box.





Dial: Dial is big and simple, looks great! I like number 3 index, it looks like a scribble by children, AR is good and with a blue tint.
Luminous is well... “So-so.”











45mm Case: is big and heavy-weight. Height is 13mm, 130g include strap, 2 holes on the lug. Mixing of polish-brushed case is very good quality! Big crown goes well with 45mm case.







STRAP: Armband Rustica from Steinhart suits well!



Communication: Communication with Mr. Torsten and Angie was pleased, Angie was afraid about delivery delay and pay careful attention for all my questions.

To be honest I would have prefered another dial design. Eating the numerals should be avoided by any manufacturer. Archimede for example has done a good job imho.
