Stolen in the mail: Eterna Airforce

I sold an Eterna Airforce on eBay back in December, and shipped it to France. Well, the buyer never received it, filed a Paypal claim (before working it out with me), and was refunded his money. So, I started the claim process along with USPS, was told to wait, called back, was told to wait a little longer, called back again and was told the paperwork was sent but returned to them as the address wasn't valid (I live in Illinois, and they sent the paperwork to Florida), so they sent the paperwork to me again. At this point, I'm pretty annoyed, and just want it over. This morning my wife tells me there's a package from France, and think "awesome, the watch was returned!" I pick up the box and right away notice that it was retaped (not cool). I open it up, most of the packing material is gone, the watch box was haphazardly put back together, and when I open it…no watch.

Going to the Post Office today so they can verify that nothing is in the package.

Also this has happened here in Portugal. Be aware that already will not see the clock.

I list the contents as "broken timer for repair" no one wants to steal a broken watch

I always use the term Horological Device on Customs Forms for overseas shipments. Now, how are you going to convince USPS that an Eterna Airforce watch was in the box? When a watchmaker "lost" my insured 1968 Rolex 1501 being returned after servicing, USPS denied his insurance claim since he "failed to provide evidence of value".

In MHO shipping insurance is a BIG scam!! USPS lost an Omega shipped one state over. It was insured for $3200. Even though I had the PP receipt and showed them countless sold listings for around same price they offered me $1000! Its been 18 months and they just now denied the claim altogether!! Off to court I go.. I now send watches only by REGISTERED mail

I assisted the sender in filing an appeal, using eBay and online prices of similar models. The appeal worked, but I had to do a lot calling to various USPS officials to get attention. Try the appeals procedure first. There is even a place to appeal if they turn down your appeal. PM me, I may still have contact information.

Yeah, I just got the letter that they are denying my claim. They're saying I do not have enough evidence to prove the watch wasn't in the box when returned to me.

I'll be filing a complaint with the postal inspectors and appealing.

    Ughhhhhhhhhh!

Yea! In my case I'm out $3200...USPS is running an insurance scam. I did everything right
and they just "stone wall". 6 registered letters and countless phone calls ( most of after being transferred back n fort were just disconnected ). I was told off the record to take it off my taxes as an uninsured loss... They won
