Still learning about the 2398-2 movement - Time change in the US

I have a few watches that are GMT types and the ETA2893 is truly designed to be a GMT movement but not much thought went into the way time is adjusted. The 24 hr hand is the one moved to adjust the GMT function instead of the 12 hr hand, which has been determined by most to be the most desireable. Like someone said, on a Rolex GMT Master II you can click the regular hour hand ahead or back, one hour at a time and no need to re-hack the time. Nice!

I have owned an Omega Seamaster GMT and the 2893-2 is modified by Omega to jump the 12 hr hand as on a Rolex. Perhaps they did patent that mod for the ETA movement. I doubt it is easy to do without the proper gears or whatever they modded.

I also have a few Citizen Eco-Drives with a GMT hand and they also jump the 12 hr hand as on a Rolex. Much more economical watches and good for the price. I have an Invicta homage to an Explorer II that has a Miyota quartz movement and it jumps the regular 12 hr hand. The problem with that watch is the battery will not stick in the movement. I cannot see anything bent or broken, just a poor fit for the battery. I taped it in with some masking tape :) Oh, it is the proper battery too!

I seem to remember that my first Rolex GMT Master adjusted the 24 hr hand independently and not the 12 hr hand as on the newer models. I may not be remembering that correctly though!

Bottom line, whether you can adjust the 12 hr or the 24 independently, each has pros and cons. A GMT is a great feature for a traveler for sure. Cheers!
