Swatch Group‘s Time to Move cancelled

The NZZ (Neue Zürcher Zeitung) just published:

From March 4th to 6th, the “Time to Move” should have taken place in Zurich for the second time. This event is organized by the luxury brands of the Swatch Group in order to present retailers and the media with their own watch innovations, since the group no longer participates in «Baselworld». However, the Swatch Group has now decided not to carry it out because of the corona virus. As stated in a communiqué, the participating brands - Breguet, Blancpain, Glashütte Original, Jaquet Droz, Harry Winston and Omega - will present their new products at a later time during regional events, so as not to be expected of their partners, in an uncertain international climate to travel.
    Kind regards

Exclamation Swatch Group cancels "Time to Move" in Zurich

Swatch Group cancels "Time to Move", due to be held in early March in Zurich, due to Coronavirus.

As much as I understand that it would not necessarily have been a great idea for the Chinese to go there in numbers, to avoid the risk of contagion, as much I misunderstand the cancellation. I think it sends the message that the other markets have become of negligible importance: Europe, US and South America, Middle East, Japan, Russia, Africa… there were still quite a few people to come.

Probably if this continues, there will not be many people at SIHH and Baselworld, which will impact the "sell in" of Swiss watchmaking. Bad news.

It would be fun to try a virtual or VR experience. Sell blocks of time for each retailer and to those who want to join in. But create a virtual walk through too. With the ability to pick up pieces and examine them.

Maybe Swatch just wanted out of the event and found a viable reason in which to do so.

Perpetuating mass hysteria about time pieces and communicable diseases. Swatch group FTW!
