    Any Prim Lovers

    Ahooj,

As much I love my Russian watches, I do equally really like Czechoslovakian Prim.

Prim was founded after the war & was the only national watch manufacturer, producing its own
movements . Not only they are very well made, and IMO aestheticaly very pleasing but they are also iconic, among others home-designed products such as Skoda & Trata cars, Vz 58 or Cz 75 guns, Botas sneakers, or even Kofola soft drinks of the ingenuity of the ČSSR, a country that has now ceased to exist.

Here is my little modest collection . I am especially found of the older models bearing the original logo (until 1969) . I can see myself adding couple more in the future

    Anybody else enjoy them ?
Feel free to share your Prim watches & post photos of yours here

My first Czech watch : Prim sport 1st gen - I bought it directly from the owner that got it new. It was a great meet & was fed amazing stories of the ČSSR times as bonus .

    «.Early model Typ 50 037 1 (011 037) from 1960.» as ID’d by Soudruhu Haha
I especially like the simple dial design into the «.Pavouk.» (spider) case.

Now, a slightly smaller model, very simple & basic, I guess a very «.Socialist.» functional model

Exellent watches, and I know for sure many of the comrades here love them and collect them. I'm surprised there isn't a thread dedicated to the prims before this one.
Anyway, these are some of the prims that are or were in my posession. I sold some recently, and I still keep some.

The Prim Sport you show is a tremendous watch! It looks even better in person. I'm so jealous! Saw one for sale last year in Bratislava, but at 500 euros I just can't afford it.

Awesome watchs Kamburov . My Prim Traktor says «Nazdar» to yours.

Most people place the Diplomat on the top of their list but for me the Traktor is my Fav !!

I was told about this watch being for sale in Slovakia by a friend and from the pictures he sent me I could not make the engraving on the back when I agreed to buy it for what was a very small price.

The inscription reads «.Venuje nač SVB.» short for «.Venuje načelnik Sprava Verejne Bezpečnosti.» meaning «.given by the Chef of the SVB.». The lack of accentuation on «.Venuje.» indicating Slovak language which ties-up with the watch coming from Kosice, today’s Slovakia 2nd largest town.

The SVB was a small department within the StB (Statni Bezpečnost / State Security / Secret Police) in charge of spying on the VB (national police). So, in all probability, this watch was a present by the local head of one of the most feared unit of the secret services in the ČSSR. I was very curious to know if it was a retirement present or given for a special deed , but sadly but also understandably, given the nature of the unit, the seller was very evasive when I try to obtain further information, and just confirmed the watch belonged to his deceased uncle.

Needless to say that given my interest in ČSSR history this Prim Traktor is probably one of my most treasured watch, both from an historical & horology point of view.
I also think it’s simply drop dead gorgeous

A (very) good price for an Igen would be around 150 euros.

€.500 for a Prim Sport is indeed simply insane ... The man who sold me his (for a small fraction) that he wore daily during the Communist times was funding a trip to Disney for his grand-Children.
    A sign of history ...

Thanks! I hope you find one in good condition! It is stunningly beautiful and has so much soul. Not as big as the traktor, but it's so stylish and classy.
Haha, didn't know about the nicknames The pyjamas was a nearly impossible restoration I did before I got in the forum. You can still see some of the black stuff at the edges of the hour markers.

Some off topic personal info. My uncle (my granpa's brother) married in Ostrava in the 60s and moved to Czechoslovakia. We don't keep in touch anymore (family relationships are complicated), but I'm having a cold czech beer and saying cheers for my czech cousins over there that I will never meet in this life!

    Re: Any Prim Lovers

I don't currently own any Prim watches, but I've got a couple of pictures to share.

First of all, here is a beautiful 1950s Prim with guilloche dial that belongs to a friend:

And then there is this direputable beast...

It is a legacy of the haphazard breakup of state-owned enterprises in the post-Communist era. Prim watch manufacture was split off from clock manufacture back in the 1950s or '60s. The two enterprises were sold separately in the 1990s; each retaining rights to the Prim brand, but without adequate restrictions on usage. Prim watches became the famous premium watchmaker that we all know and sadly can't afford. Prim clocks was bought by a German company who mostly wanted access to the Prim name to sell non-Czech watches into the Czech Republic. This one that I bought was made in China or Hong Kong (the movement was made in Shijiazhuang) and closely resembles a model that the real Prim had made for many years. This watch has been broken for parts.
