Question Help with Identification and Repair - Possible Interesting Watch Story

I have been lurking here reading on Watchuseek for about a year, just learning. And the Russian forum gets my first post. Around 25 years ago I received this watch as a gift from a friend's father along with an interesting story. Will share the story, but identifying the watch will help tell me if it was plausible or not. I had misplaced this watch for many years and recently found it again at my parent's house. I would like to ID it and get some suggestions on repair. You may see the glass is cracked over the 1. At some point this must have taken a hit and it is not in working order. My local servicer says he does not have the parts to work on this. So any suggestions of where I could have it rebuilt are appreciated.

I will definitely share its backstory too! Here are the pictures.

Early 1990s Vostok Komandirskie with an interesting dial. Looks like a civilian airliner rather than a typical military dial.
It's in nice condition. A new crystal would cost about $5 plus shipping, available on eBay and from many sites that specialize in Russian watches. Anyone with basic watch tools could change it for you. The watch appears to be in good shape and worth the repair, IMO.

The word on the back means "water resistant."

Now that that's settled, let's get the rest of the story, please. =)

Hi GUTuna and welcome to the forum. The logo on the dial is for the Russian Air Force cargo planes division. Apparently (according to Juri Levenberg's book "Russian Wristwatches" anyway) it was made in 1993 and is fairly rare.

If you tell us where you are in the world, someone should be able to suggest a decent local watchmaker for you.

Re: Help with Identification and Repair - Possible Interesting Watch Story

Thank you for all the great information! I'm in Washington, DC.

What you have described meshes with the story I was told. We always knew my friend's father worked for the US federal government and he said he had received it as a gift from an officer in the Russian Air Force. Years later, when I had misplaced the watch, I came to know that, as with many others in this area of the world, he worked in intelligence for many years. Given the explanation of years later, I strongly suspect the two were working together in an "unofficial" capacity.

He passed on the watch to me as we shared a love of history, travel, and languages and he thought I would love the watch. As may be clear, Russian is not one of my languages though! As I began my first steps into watch collecting I killed myself for misplacing the watch. Very happy to have it come back to me and will not mislay it again!

Again, thank you for all the help!

Just brought one of these off the bay, and was on here looking for any info as never seen this dial before, came across it with 2 mins to go so no time to research.

Strap will have to go , but seems O.K for less than £20. My third Russian watch .
I have to say they are more interesting to collect than some others.
