    I smell a fake

    The seller says;

    "Storm 333 Kabul Zenit PGY KGB, brand Pobeda with caliber ZIM 2602. It a reward watch targeted at special of subdivisions in military action in Afghanistan."

    Pobeda? Zim? both amde it? and Zenit is a camera manufacturer!?!? I sort of like the loko of it, but there is somethign horribly awry with this. One of those "screened a dial off on my computer" kind of things? I admit I actually like the look of the dial, but there is way too much goofyness here with this one. Anyone have any other info here?

    I'd call it a "fantasy dial" because the whole notion of the existence of such a watch is pure fantasy.

    Kinda like finding an antique coin dated "100 BC"

    A lot of these half-subdial 'special inscription' Pobedas seem to claim an Afghan connection, but they're all just redialled ZIM Pobeda watches.

    I reckon there's a template doing the rounds in the Ukraine. You can change the colour and the inscription and then print it out and paste it on.

    Somehow I suppose the sellers are having a chuckle: to those not familiar with the language (and the cyrillic alphabet) they could have made some serious-looking writings on the dial saying things like, "State Champion, Belching Competition 2005" and write 500 words to describe it, giving it some amazing story.

    Now you've got me itching to track down that template and half a dozen late-model Pobedas

    I even remember a "Nord-Ost" version dedicated to the tragic attack at the Dubrovka theater in 2002 and to the military team (Alfa, Spetznaz, i don't remember) involved in the operations. Same dial, same watch as basis, same BS. Seen 3 or 4 years ago, or something more.

    Words with meanings to one culture can be merely graphics to another: here is an example from www.engrish.com found in a Japanese woman's magazine.
