    Re: "Upscale" Russians

Honestly I am trying to collect as many watches I can from makers from all over the world. But dang finding a Russian watch I would wear over one of my other pieces at least to a certain degree is difficult.

I'm still upset they only offer 1 modern Raketa with a 2609 caliber. They were about half the price and the automatic caliber I would assume is a lot of the cost.

I was at a WUS meetup and all the attendees agreed it was a quick favorite. One of my favorites and purchased for around $600.

Once I've finished with my review samples, I'll probably wrote a review of some of these older modern watches with 2609.

My limited experience with the Slava 2427 calibre is pleasant enough. So far every one worked well with a reasonable degree of timekeeping accuracy

And I suppose there's still adequate stocks of this Slava movement available, as I've seen quite a few of these "CCCP" branded watches, especially on Massdrop, supposedly powered by 2427 movements which I assumed to be Slava's

Have you seen this Slava reissue? A tad less expensive, but still compared to a Vostok, yikes!

Raketa is without anti-magnetic protection, if they asking such price they should offer more...

About Slava, they already have Kosmograph or similar named watches, which is very cheep.
Televozor definitely is for foreigner buyers.

    Re: "Upscale" Russians

I think the Russian perception is just as bad, maybe not as bad, as the Chinese. Similarly enough, the idea of "questionable" quality for a certain $$ is tough as both are not well received as much as the Swiss/Japanese/German. Even, I have a hard time justifying $400USD+ on either a Chinese watch or Russian, just because there are adequate Swiss and Japanese watches that have "better" movements and potentially fit and finish, excluding tourbillon. And, I love both Chinese and Russian watches equally due to their history.

For the most parts, I think the Russians may have a harder time as much of their movements are not as refined as their other counterparts and the quick date is a bit cumbersome. And, while their movements are adequate, they are not as refined as others. But, I do give props to the Russians as they do not use clone movement. However, I do not know if the Russians make any upscale movements.

I do love my poljot 2609/2409 and the Slava 2414 that I have. And, I would love to see a revival of the Poljot 2209, 2612 or the Vostok 2809.

    Re: "Upscale" Russians

It's not first attempt to sell expensive new watch. There are "russian" micro brands with non Russian internals breaking into upscale category.
Personally i don't think they as cheap as they sought on e-bay but that also could be said about many now obscure used old watches.
Timex may hit astronomical values (asked) comparing to what it was worth new. I have 0 experience with modern Russian watches only with older ones 90s and older. They are not bad and apart form QC issues with soviet manufacturing and especially post soviet one in mid 90s there is really nothing wrong with them.
Technically if you order custom made case of stainless steel , good fit and finish, sapphire and it will be small batch there is no way it going to be 100$ watch regardless of how "historic" movement is inside.
Like the dude on Mir station in Armageddon movie said "Russian tech, American tech it all made in Taiwan".
These are prices of mass produced new quality watches. Ok, within same ball park.
    It should be special!

OP - you putting "Upscale" in quotation marks next to the word 'Russian' made me LOL for real. Thanks....

Maybe not the best word, I was trying to convey "more expensive" in comparison to the typical thrifty Vostok. From what I see, the Raketa and Slava posted appear to be well made watches. No better or worse than any dime a dozen microbrand diver out there as far as I can see. I'm not attempting to justify the price or compare to other non-Russian watches, I just think it's cool that there are other brand choices and some nice looking newer models coming out of Russia. Nothing wrong with keeping an open mind.
