    Vostok Prototype?

    Hello guys,

Has anyone seen this listing on the 'Bay?

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/173917747...m=173917747523

Can anyone shed any light on this, is it a prototype? I seem to recall reading something about this before.

I certainly haven't seen one quite like this. Seems pretty pricey.

    Any info appreciated.

Interesting, havrn't seen one either. Can't be an amfibia prototype, though. Chrome plated case with komandirskie size caseback. Hands are a strange mix, including a more modern minute hand. It may be a rare prototype case, I don't know, there are still a tousand things that feel wrong about this listing.

Agree with Ivan on this, the watch just seems wrong, the hour and minute hands are new and that case back is post-Soviet often seen on Komandirskies from 1994-95.

I’ve seen this and some other 3000$ vostok watches... well something like that must come with the paperwork in my view. When this prototype was developed there must be a document corroborating this. Otherwise, unless you are crazy rich, stay away.

To my eyes, it looks like a vintage 710 case that has been trimmed down at the sides. If that is what it is, it would not be the first reshaped case that we have seen on this forum.

It can't be a trimmed down 710 case or any other Amphibia case as that Komandirskie back would be too small for any Amphibia, also other small differences such as smaller lug width on the "prototype"...

I don't know anything about this watch or anything about prototypes from Vostok. It would be interesting to know if Vostok or any other Russian watchmaker had any experimental production. Was it possible to get a custom made watch case from a watch factory?
The space between the lugs seem to be smaller than the ordinary Ministry model.
I have seen some reshaped watch cases from the Vostok barrel case and when the craftmanship was good and the price was right, I've bought them. No idea if they are the work from the Vostok factory or if it's someone with good skills and tools that's made them. Does anyone here know?

    Re: Vostok Prototype?

I am in russian watches about 12 years. Not so long, but not short also. Never seen sometning like this. Never heard. Of course it does not mean that this could not been real thing (personaly, do not believe, but that is just feeling, based on years)....and prices of this seller are very well known here ( find thread where he tried to sell compresor)...prices are ice cold shower.

And to answer a question about: was it possible to make a custom watch in the USSR: officially no. Un-officially you could make anything. If someone wanted a custom watch case it could have been easily done. Just need to find a ‘connection’ on the factory. Everything back then was done via a ‘connection’. And people cultivated them. You help me - I help you. 🙂
