What's the purpose for this, to reduce the friction and metal-on-metal "grinding"?

Makes it tighter, smoother, stays where you set it, it's so hot today in Florida you can't go outside so I thought it would be a good day to become a youtuber

I find it easy to make tighter by adjusting the spring, but a couple of my bezels could definitely be smoother.
I will give this a try. What is the plastic material that you used?

Good one. I read people use an adhesive film that is used to protect car’s headlights. Super strong (will not scratch).

A few small bits of Rodico (and I mean really small) in the cases' wire groove and will make the bezel action smoother and make the bezel stay in situ without faffing about cutting bits of plastic, and its waterproof, takes a few seconds and no scissors involved.

Please explaim process. First put rodico, and then push wire inside groove with rodico, or put rodico in groove with installed wire, and where - on angle of wire which is inside, or on visible parts of wire which are slightly outside?

Take 3 REALLY SMALL pieces of Rodico, place on the angles of the wire of the wire retainer, one opposite the wire gap and the other two on the adjacent angles to the first on the inside of the bezel (or, alternatively, just in the case groove approximately where the angles will sit). Refit the bezel, job done. adjust the size of the rodico if the bezel is still loose. Its hard to explain how small the bits of rodico need to be, but something like 3 pieces 1mm in diameter, rolled into a small sausage. The rodico will stick the bezel in place and add drag when turned. Once done, its easy, much harder to explain than just doing it.

A few wraps of waxed dental floss does the job for me.
