Any tips on trying to get a clear picture of this.

Hi, I'm hoping somebody here can help me. I'm normally found on f10
(Russian watches) and have just got this with an engraving on a patterned case . Now to translate it I need a decent picture to zoom in and try to distinguish the Russian letters. I only have a compact camera (Samsung) and a Windows phone which I grabbed these with before it got dark and played with using a editing program . Any tricks I can try?

Maybe a paper or tissue paper and pencil etching?

Thanks, I did try this but the pattern gets in the way. Maybe some better tracing paper tomorrow. It really is annoying me.

Paint (software), draw out by black the letters.

Try playing with the angle of the light so that the highlights do not get blown out. Also, use the compact camera you have to get a clear/well focused picture and then zoom in on the detail from there.

Might actually be more helpful to not zoom in and have a wider view. Don't blast it with head-on light, use soft light from a window on an overcast day and take a pic, then zoom in on it after if you still cant read it. Lightroom has a 'clarity' adjustment that might help, I can run it through if you send me the file.

    And a translation of:

The missing word could be union.

I can't believe someone engraved this case back.

    And engraved it in 1997!
I would have expected such back in 1927 maybe.
