Here's a strange PC fix (not really O/T)

Since digital photographers need a PC and many use some kind of USB device to copy pics from the camera card to the PC...

    I'm running Windows XP Home.

I had been having trouble with my USB internal camera card reader lately. After booting up the PC, the system simply wouldn't recognize the reader.

After tearing my hair out for awhile, I found a "workaround" by disabling the USB Enhanced controller in Device Manager. This allowed the system to see the USB device, but it was only running at USB 1.1 speeds...

I thought I was just going to have to live with it like that - at least until I could somehow find what the problem was.

    A Windows re-install didn't help.
Another internal USB card reader didn't work either.
An external USB card reader didn't work...

Then my brother sent this link to me: http://skeptacles.blogspot.com/2006/...nced-host.html

Hmmm... All I have to do is power off the PC (I unplugged EVERYTHING), wait for a half-hour, then hold the power button down for one minute...

I did all that, reconnected everything and booted up.

PRESTO! Everything is back to normal and the USB camera card reader is working fine again!

It's the strangest PC fix I've ever tried and it actually worked for me.

Very strange indeed. Do you have to do that each time you want to use the reader, or was it just the once?

Just once. The reader has been working fine since... Granted, it's only been a week now, but at least the reader is working again.

I'm wondering if a capacitor somewhere needed to be drained or something (I know nothing about electronics). This motherboard is two years old, so maybe something is getting ready to fail.

I have one sd card which my internal card reader does want to recognise. I just leave it in the camera which I connect to my laptop and ... it reads it.
I rarely use the internal card reader now.
