    Japan... A different world

I was going to go into Tokyo at first but instead we have opted for Kamakura and we will visit Tokyo, tomorrow and Thursday.

    These were taken in Yokohama

I am surprised at the amount of vintage motorcycles.

To get around in the Subway is real easy

And Chinatown is really nice at night. More to come

A few images from Kamakura, narration to come for these later as I will be heading to Tokyo again shortly

    Shibuya, Tokyo

Shibuya is famous for its scramble crossing which is reportedly the world's busiest. It is located in front of the Shibuya Station Hachiko exit and stops vehicles in all directions to allow pedestrians to inundate the entire intersection.

The Starbucks store overlooking the crossing is also one of the busiest in the world, the line up was too long so I skipped my morning latte.

The 2003 American movie Lost in Translation featured a scene at the crossing. It has to be the busiest crossing in the world as I can attest, I was there 3 times yesterday the last time at 11:30 p.m. and as busy as 2 p.m. ... I can't even imagine how it is at rush hour...

    Ready... set ... GO!!!!!

A "Lost in Translation" moment... it is actually a little bit exhilarating at every light change

A few random pictures of people in the area

What surprised me is that they smoke in restaurants yet outside they have smoking areas...

And it is as busy at night.

    Hi Dude,

Great photo's. Did you see the "robot building" near the "LOST in Translation" crossing? I think it is one of the funniest buildings in Tokyo. A friend of me posts sometimes photo's of it.

    Cheers,

Thank you all, I can't seem to be able to do multiquotes this morning...

A few more pictures from yesterday, sorry no narrative yet... Just real busy and will be heading to Tokyo shortly.

Glad I offered this trip to my S.O. for her 27th birthday. Tokyo is an amazing city - truly. And the people are extremely receptive to being photographed by a tall stranger...

The cool things with taxis is that only the door on the curb side opens, and it is automatic - you do not touch it.

The other great thing is, there are no barriers between you and the driver + the cars like the rest of Japan are immaculate. As a country Japan is beautiful and incredible in all ways (Except the food... albeit I had great Sushi today, finally! Had to go to the 5th floor, a place in Ginza... No one spoke English, well very little but the food was terrific and inexpensive.)

I mean what's not to like when you get reactions like these...

    Bummer it rained...

Nice pics - they really to a great job of making you feel like you're right there. Japan has always been at the top of my list of places to go. The only thing I think I might have some problems with (besides the never ending flight) is navigating through all that pedestrian traffic - if the streets are that crowded, I can't even begin to imagine what the subways/buses are like. Regardless, I have to get out there and soon! If you have any more pics, please share them! What's the story with the doctor's masks, are people still a bit scared of SARS or is it just meant to filter out any air polutants?
