A bit of a tough question to start...what type of photo do you want to take? What other equipment do you have? External flash? Tripod?

Best to play with the set-up for an evening - take a few shots then upload. Comment can go from there!

Assuming you don't have flash or tripod, start with the camera on automatic, put your watch on a neutral background, light front a window ideally without direct sunlight - then take a few shots.

For starters you may want to read this post - it's rather general and applies to all cameras. The settings for your camera may be mentioned in the user's manual.

    Kidding aside, I do recommend:
To stay away from any special built in "macro" or such exposure modes (if available and whatever they are called on the 450D).
Best use manual exposure (M) or aperture priority AE ("Av" in Canon terms) with a small aperture. Use the lowest possible ISO setting for better sharpness / noise avoidance.
