    Lens Rentals ....Just try it

I was sceptical about renting lenses . Then I tried it since I didnt want to spend 1300 on a lens without trying it although the 80-200 I got without ever trying it ..anyway I rented a Nikon 17-55 2.8 ... got it for a week for $90. man what a monster lens ... big , heavy , fast ... should work well for the wedding I am doing .. next rental will be a 300 or 400 2.8 for moose and bear pics

Rentals are nice when they're emergencies. I rented a 5D + 24-105L because I needed a second body ASAP - no time to buy one.

However, most lenses (and most camera equipment in fact) have very good resale value, you can easily buy one second hand and flip it (in a few years even) for 90% or more of it's value.... almost making renting pointless.
