    Macro shots with an iPhone

Acting on a tip from another forum, bought the $8.99 3-lens pocket magnifier from RadioShack:

Put one lens over my iPhone lens and quickly took the one shot to test it out:

I should get pretty good pix with a little practice and trying different lenses!

I own the Griffin Clarifi for iPhone 3G, which has a macro lens built into the protective case. It is pretty darn good.

Here's one i just shot today:

If the leaf hadn't been moving, could have done better on the focus. Pretty amazing.
The best thing about it, besides that it was cheap, is that it can be used on my iPhone Edge (V.1).
The Clarifi works best 6-10 inches -this, well, is considerably closer.
The Clarifi is nicely integrated, though
This will be great fun at our next local GTG

That "6-10 inches" figure is from some Clarifi spec? I think I usually use it closer than that, but still your solution is kewler.

For the lazy among us, here are some example shots from an off-the-shelf solution. Ultimately, it is still using the iPhone's sensor.

If you have an iPhone 3G, chances are you're going to be buying a protective case anyway. I've had good luck with the Clarifi. It is no more expensive than any of the other good ones, so you get a macro lens for free. The macro lens is on a slider that moves it a) over and b) away from the native lens. Thus you can slide it onto the "away" position for far shots and for use with a hand held loupe.

Have fun!!! And post some more iPhone macro shots.
