    Olympus E510 & Leica Macro-Elmar...

    Hi -

As mod to the Vintage and Pocket Watch forum, I try and get some good pictures. I've had the E510 for about a year now, quite pleased with it, and I've got the 35mm f3.5 macro for it as well, which is a great lens for quick macro work that is quite good.

But I got this off of eBay a few weeks ago for a relatively small sum...

...and also the Leica R-->4/3 mount so that I can put it on my E510.

Now, obviously there is no autofocus and I have to use aperature-preferred stop-down metering, but the quality you get is simply stupendous: remember that these photos were resized to 800x600, and imagine what they look like in their full glory...

When working on specialized photos, nothing beats special equipment!

I've worked with the original RAW format and taken the photos to max resolution (400%), and there are no diffraction effects whatsoever, nor are there any color artifacts...but you do have to use a fairly massive tripod, and some of these shots were 2 second exposures.

But for you Olympus fans out there, this is about the least expensive path to about the best quality you will be able to find...

    NIIIIIIIICE John!

I have the same model Olympus and love it.

Now I have to make myself better based on what I see the Olympus can do...

    Very very true
Can I inquire what the 'small sum' you mention was? Trying to get an idea of what a ballpark figure for a setup that can shoot like that is.
