Sandhill Crane in my yard this morning

I woke up this morning and found this visitor in my backyard.

The first picture is a winner, although it probably could benefit from a touch of sharpening and bumping up the contrast a smidge. Good stuff!

Cool, thanks for the suggestion Dan. I am not a photographer by any means, so I appreciate all the help I can get to improve my photos.

I was just glad to get a chance to get a few shots before he flew away.

Begging Matt's indulgence, here it is after fifteen seconds with Picasa3 (freeware) and five seconds with Irfanview (also freeware).

    Ron,
That is a huge improvement. After seeing your changes, I realize how dark the original photo was.

I will definitely have to download Picasa and Irfanview.

    Thanks!

For freeware, it's hard to beat Gimp. Not that I'm suggesting beating gimps, but you know what I mean

It has quite a tool-set, although it does have a steeper learning curve than Picasa.
