    Shanghai Night Reflections

The lights of Shimao International Plaza and Tomorrow Square reflected in Suzhou Creek (aka Wusong River). Shot from Suzhou Road.
The tall building with the twin spires left is the Shimao International Plaza, a 333.3m tall skyscraper with 60 floors, located on Nanjing East Road adjacent to People's Square.

Nice! Is that sepia-like color from the atmospheric haze (known around here as smog)? I know in Beijing it can get pretty bad.

Same effect as you had in the Amsterdam night picture, camera white balance on "Auto" instead of the (actually more appropriate) "Tungsten". The typical Shanghai winter haze is colored by the multitude of Sodium vapor lamps.

This winter haze you have all around the Chinese east coast, and combined with industrial output it makes for nice smog.

As for air pollution in China, rather interesting: Shanghai's air quality is actually not that bad anymore, re. pollutants. Back in 1989 Shanghai had nearly the worst air quality in China, it did improve notably during the time I did live there. Now it's not even anymore on the list of the "worst polluted".
And just before the 2008 Olympic games the big Chinese cities had an air quality survey, Beijing scored second worst after Lanzhou (capital of Gansu Province, plain industrial town).

I agree. Thankfully, I have learned more than I knew in the 2007 Amsterdam trip. No more .jpg-only, WB-auto photos for me.
