    Underwater camera recommendations?

Can anyone recommend a durable, reliable underwater camera? I see more and more point/shoot cameras that claim water resistance to ~5-10 feet. Something along those lines is what I am looking for, durability is a key factor.

    thanks!

You have three options, in increasing levels of cash
    1. The cheap-o disposable 35mm (which works surprisingly well)
    2. A waterproof housing for your current camera
    3. A dedicated waterproof DSLR, with off-camera flash units

I'd look into the waterproof housing in lieu of the water-resistant PnS camera. This company looks to offer a beefed-up version of a plastic baggie. Waterproof Camera Case - These Cases Turn Your Camera Waterproof

There are companies that make dedicated clamshell housings that work quite well.
How 'deep' are you planning to get with this photography? Is this a casual thing or are you planning on making money from this hobby?

Strictly casual, point and shoot. Snapshots of my watches, my kids and family in the pacific ocean, lakes, swimming pools, water slide and wave pool parks. Since I need a new point/shoot it got me thinking, why not get something I can use in the water too?

I am liking option #2 clam shell case the most. It seems like its the most versatile.

    thanks

I use a Olympus Tough series... there are 2 different models available. Check them out. They do really well in most situations, except night.

Olympus tough was good enough for me (but I'm no camera expert)

How often and how deep do you dive? I had found that old professional grade underwater film cameras can be have for close to or under $100. Look for names like Sea and Sea, Nikonos... These have more lights and accessories available to give you better color picture at higher dept. For anything 15feet and less your existing camera in a Ewa Marine type zip bag will do.
