    Walk around lens?

I have currently added a Canon 50D as a primary body and moved my 10D to backup/second body status. For the past four years I have used a 28-135 IS Canon lens as my general purpose "If I can only bring one lens" and
found it to be very satisfactory. Now on the 50D I find it to be slightly soft. From the reviews and people in my Photo Club, I have been told that the added information from the 15 meg sensor is showing the faults of the glass. My question is if anyone has a better piece to fill this niche in my kit. I have a 100mm 2.8 Canon macro and it has shown the true potential of this body so I would like to utilize more of it. I realize that a zoom is not a primary but there must be better options. I do not own a no-Canon lens but that is not by choice. If there is a better affordable option I would love to hear about it. Thanks in advance.

What about a Canon 17-55IS? Or if it is too much, the 17-50Tamron?

Thanks Elmo, I was thinking of something with a little more on the long end?
This was shot with the 50D/ 100 2.8 macro on a tripod. Lots of info from that sensor!!!

    Hi Frank,

I have a slightly longer 17-85 canon is lens, but it is not as sharp as the 17-55, as I recall.

However, it is definitely more handy, and light.

Will that work for you? 17-85?

How about the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens? Sounds like it may be just what you are looking for. It's not the smallest or lightest lens, so if carrying weight is an issue maybe this won't work.

On a 50D, here would be an awesome setup:

    Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8
    Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS
    Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS

We're talking serious bucks here, but man would that be sweet.

The 17-55 is crazy sharp by the way.
