    What would I need?

This is about as good as I can get with my Android phone. What type of simple digital camera could I buy just to get slightly better quality? How much would I need to spend? Keep in mind, I'm not looking for professional quality, but just a little better than this. Thanks.

dp review is great. i enter alot of photo contests there!
you should be able to get a good photo even with your phone. depending on phone camera that is. most modern smartphones come with good cameras.
you just have to make sure lighting is good. your pic looks under-lit.
try again with better light and some way to stabilize the phone like sit it on a couple books or a tripod and phone clip.
heres a pic with my LG-G5 android phone. i sat my phone on my coffee cup to keep it from shaking and had just the overhead florescent lights...

really any newer point and shoot would do the trick to answer your original question though. make sure it takes at least a 1980x1020 format for HD pictures. many older point and shoot cameras are only 480 pixels wide and doesnt lend to great pictures. I like canon or olympus point and shoot cameras personally. i also like the rugged versions of them as they tend to last longer...

I like digital SLRs or mirrorless cameras with interchangeable lenses. I'm not going to spend alot of $$$ on a phone just to get a better camera on it. Because even the best phone cam doesn't offer the versatility of an interchangeable lens camera. I always get cheap phones because I don't keep them long-about 2 years.
