    $1375 gold tempting watch sale?

Have a prime prospect for very profitable quick sale in both watch and a nugget watch chain. Watch is nothing special very heavy 18K hunter with good Elgin mvnt. Not original combo and case shows some wear. Chain is heavy with 42 nuggets, 24 large and all other metal 14K. Modern Alaska.
Would you sell one or both? Meaning at scrap value.

I reckon something this unique deserves to be sold as a set.

That's the deciding factor - if it isn't original, then it's not of value to a collector. Nice dial though.

You will never get $1300 for a troy ounce of 24K gold.

I would keep the combo intact.

On second thoughts, I would have the chain reworked to a chain or bracelet for the wife.
    She is worth it.
And I might get the OK to buy another watch....

I like what you write Janne, but my wife has no problem with my buy and sell activities. For 55 years has generally benefited from them. Also we have a local coin and jewelry dealer having trouble getting gold and silver and sells Rolex and old watches expensively. I was prompted to consider selling the watch and chain because he will not scrap them and will pay full scrap value as a minimum. Recently paid me full commodity price for 20+ lbs of 90% silver U.S. coins. I listed these 2 items as the only gold things I might sell for scrap value because of weight and little collector value. I am
really unsure about the nugget chain, less so for the watch.

Depends. What would the watch for as a set sell vs the melt down value of the components to a foundry.

Re: $1375 gold tempting watch sale?

The case would be easy sell, movement or not, if in really fine condition at somewhat more than scrap value. 18k, 18 size is rare. It is about 2.5 oz so is a hard sell in ordinary conditon at $1300X2.5X.75. Unlikely buyer for the combo because scrap value so high and I believe nugget chains more saleable as jewelry as Janne suggests. The really fine B.W.Raymond movement and perfect original dial is a hard sell at only $100.
