$8 Longines Ultra-Chron. Green scum on dial?

Picked this up for $8 and oh boy is it beat up! I have always wanted an Ultra-Chron and didn't hesitate for $8. Actually quite big as well for the age of it. However, it is messed up. Doesn't run, no stem, crystal is cracked open which allowed the green scum to accumulate on the dial, the case is banged up. The only good thing about it is that the gold hasn't worn off lol. Is it possible to clean the green off without risking ruining the dial? Would you all fix it up or just part the movement? Thoughts?

I wouldn't bother restoring this one. You probably will do better by selling movement for parts and getting yourself another one.

How big is it exactly? Not much bigger than 32mm I guess?

And do you have an idea of its manufacturing year?

Unfortunately I agree with the others. While there is no single issue that prevents you from restoring this watch, there's also no particular reason to save it. Everything is in pretty bad shape and it's just not worth it. All in all it's probably a parts watch.

Put a stem on it and see if it runs. If it runs put it a new crystal and clean up the case and list it on ebay starting at like 1 dollar. as a running parts watch. You might be surprised what you get for it.

Is the movement running? Bring the movement and put it in another case/dial, you can find them on ebay easily. If I remember well the tuning fork has 3 possibilities: not working (throw away) , working good, working bad (you have to regulate and after it will work good)

This is not a tuning fork movement. It is a 36,000 beat per minute mechanical (likely cal. 431) movement.

I do agree that it will take a lot of work to make this a collectible piece.

A working Longines movement always has some value.

    Hope this helps,
